Thank you everyone for your support! In Davis County, as of November 7 2020, we are going to school 4 days a week.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, education – and life in general – have drastically been altered. With the upcoming 2020-2021 school year in mind, school boards and districts are working to create successful schedules.

The United States was founded upon the belief that the government should be ruled by the voice of the people. In petitioning, we exercise that belief as well as the right given under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

This is a petition to push for five-day, in-person schooling in Davis County in the state of Utah. Your signature is highly valued and appreciated. Thank you.

I have spent this week reviewing the concerns shared in the comments section of this petition. These accounts highlight the genuine difficulties families face with the current schedule. I am currently preparing a formal presentation to address these challenges with district leadership.

The momentum behind this petition highlights a significant desire for a return to consistent in-person instruction. I appreciate the time each of you took to contribute to this discussion. We will now focus on ensuring these concerns reach the officials responsible for our local school schedules.

What law are they following that allows the school district to prophylactically go to a hybrid schedule? What criteria did our area meet to change the schedule based on this virus? I want to make sure laws are kept and we aren’t governing by emotions and not listening to the people.

We should have five days of school with an option of online learning for the people at risk or people who want to be extra careful.

It’s ridiculous that almost every other idstrict in the state is at least having students in school for 4 of the days of the week and we’re only doing 2. Especially with sports schedules and such, how can they justify having those up and going every day and not school?

Two days a week is insufficient. We can do more and we can do it safely. If there is a problem - then let’s work the problem if it happens. Let’s not create an alternative long term learning and social problem based upon fear. Let’s find a workable solution.

Our kids NEED school. Especially those coming from lower income, abuse, and poor living conditions. Think about the KIDS! Kids need boundaries and support and for lots of kids that is only found in school.

Jason is my hero. I keep hearing stories from friends that go like this: 1) family member has to get tested for a procedure, but has no symptoms. His test comes back positive, and he is notified that all 4 family members in his home are counted as positive for Covid, even though only one was tested. 2) the previous family, outraged, all go get tested. One more tests positive, despite no symptoms, and the whole family gets counted for Covid AGAIN. 3) Two men go to get tested as required for outbreak at work site. They sign in, but decide to go home as line is too long. Both get a call that their tests have come back positive. Family is outraged, they can’t get anyone to change it. 4) A boy commits suicide. His death is counted as Covid, even though he never had one symptom. 5) you can’t go online and see how many people died in 2019... so no way to compare to last year’s deaths.

Socialization is an essential part of kids mental fitness. By keeping kids home we are preventing then from learning and using social skills. We need kids to be in the classroom!
