The Island Community Board, on behalf of all residents and visitors to Fishers Island, NY, seeks to remedy various infrastructure issues, including roads and sidewalks.
Fishers Island's sidewalks have been in desperate need of repair for decades. A comprehensive report was submitted to the Town of Southold in 2008 & 2009. Few repairs have been made since 2009.
The 2008 report showed that 85% of Fishers Island's sidewalks are in "poor to extremely bad" condition and in need of repair.
These damaged sidewalks present a hazard to all who utilize them on a daily basis. Many residents choose to walk or jog in the street due to the condition of the sidewalks. Those who choose to use the sidewalk must be constantly vigilant to avoid injury or mishap.2008 Report: http://24.38.28.228:2040/weblink/DocView.aspx?dbid=0&id=343810&page=1&cr=1

Seeing one hundred people sign this confirms I am not the only one tired of dodging cracks and uneven pavement on my daily walk. Thank you for acknowledging that our neighborhood deserves better than these crumbling paths.

My own neighbor tripped on these broken slabs just last week and I refuse to wait another decade for the town to act. We need a surge of momentum to hit the one hundred mark so the board actually listens when we present this list.

This is a necessary infrastructure project that doesn't need a vote from Congress or any appropriations bill. The significant tax revenues from Fishers Island homeowners and businesses are surely sufficient to justify these important (and overdue) repairs.
As a parent of young children who rely on their bikes when on Fishers, I cannot begin to state how important this is. Both of my girls have had accidents on their bikes due to the conditions of the sidewalks. Pedestrian and child safety are of utmost importance and paving the sidewalks is critical.
I am 63 yrs old and in really great shape. I was in town on Fishers in October. I tripped on the upended sidewalk and cracked 2 ribs. I never thought to come back at Southold. Also it's not my style, but I implore you. Please please fix our sidewalks. Marje Helfet
We bought our house Equestrian Avenue in 1992 and at that time the sidewalk was crumbling and dislocated. One of the Crisp girls told me that it's been that way since she was a child who grew up on Winthrop Avenue in the 70's. Surely it's time for repair.
Sidewalks are so bad that we sometimes have to walk in roads on the West End. This is particularly dangerous for families with carriages, pets, etc., much less the obvious danger of slip and falls.
Please invest some of the tax dollars we send you back into our Island. Need sidewalks desperately. Thank you.
I tripped and fell across from HAY HARBOR and cut my forehead

I grew up on Fishers Island and now have mobility issues that make the sidewalks dangerous to navigate and they are in desperate need of repair. I would say that it is very close to being an ADA issue. Please repair them quickly.
