The state officially cleared the way for our seniors to cross that stage in person. Seeing our kids finally reclaim their moment after months of uncertainty brings me so much peace. Thank you for pushing this forward with me until we reached the finish line.

SUPPORT THE Delaware 2020 HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES & THEIR GRADUATION

(donations on this forum NOT requested or required following sign up)

One Graduation on the same day, at the same time for every High School in Delaware

For twelve years, we as parents, teachers and school administrators have asked our children to fight for what they believe in, to be their best, and to never settle for less. These children, our children, deserve more than a virtual or drive through graduation. They deserve their moment to shine. We are proposing a state wide graduation as below. This plan can be modified; however; our children deserve to walk the stage as Pomp and Circumstance plays.

  • Where - Outdoors Only - football field, athletic field, large municipal space *NOTE - a standard size football field with sidelines, end zone, stands and track can accommodate a class size of 500-600 students with guests and faculty.
  • When - Week of June 22 - starting on Monday with each consecutive day as rain date.
  • Who - Every Graduating Senior with 2 Guests, teachers and faculty, Board of Education and their distinguished guests
    • All attendees required to wear a mask
    • All attendees will be provided with hand sanitizer at the entry gates
    • All entry gates to be staffed with body temperature check points
    • All entry points and seating for attendees and graduates will be arranged for appropriate and required social distancing in all directions.
    • Multiple points of entry and exit
    • Police presence to help orderly entrance/exit
    • Each town required to LiveStream the ceremony for family members and staff/ admin not in attendance
    • Create a registration whereby all parents and Graduates agree to maintain social distancing through the entirety of the event. Those graduates who do not register and agree to the rules, will not be allowed to participate
    • No live band music. Recorded band participation encouraged
    • All rehearsals to be done virtually, in advance. No on site rehearsal
    • Restroom (monitor) staffed with professional cleaning contractor for sanitizing throughout the event
    • No food or beverage other than bottled water allowed
    • PARENT/GUARDIAN PARTICIPATION ENCOURAGED AND NEEDED
    • All individual graduation ceremonies beyond the above guidelines are planned by their respective communities.

Seeing this grow makes me think of my own kid sitting at home missing what should be their biggest moment. Your commitment to these seniors proves that we refuse to let their achievements go unmarked and forgotten.

My own child worked for twelve years for this moment and I refuse to let it pass by without a proper ceremony. We are just a few signatures away from hitting our first hundred and I need you to pass this link to your neighbors right now to get us over that hump.

Strongly support. The Air Force Academy did it. West Point is doing it. DMA and all the schools can and should do it. The requirements of the petition are appropriate.

There is also the dinner international which could host a few schools at a time... Kids could drive over the finish line when they name is called or just drive across slowly led by the state police... Texas and SC are doing this

Coming from a town like new castle, graduation ceremonies are extremely important. It’s memory that sticks with you forever. Many of this kids could be first generation graduates, setting the tone for younger siblings.

My daughter is a senior at christiana and the stress that has came with school, the ups and downs, he fighting to graduation, school never came easy for her and now she’s thrived her senior year and to take this away is unheard of. She deserves her graduation even if it’s just two guest. It takes two to make a baby and both parents should be able to witness this.

This is very unfair to deny these children their graduation ceremony live. As a Senior, walking down the isle receiving your diploma while all your friends and parents watch is what we all look forward too. Reschedule the ceremony for another day once the country reopens.

our students committed their blood, sweat and tears, the least that can be done is to formally recognize them in person.

This sounds like an excellent idea.. My son goes to Sally's and he is a very hard working student, he deserves a proper graduation ceremony as well as all the other graduates.
