Pierce county, WA requires rational guidance from its Department of Public Health to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Anthony Chen has not done this, rather he has politicized our county's response to this health crisis. His actions, particularly as it relates to reopening schools for in-person learning, go against both state and national guidance and are not in the best interests of the community. We call on the Pierce County and City of Tacoma governments to fire him and appoint a new public health director.
The damage being done to our children by keeping them out of school and away from interaction with peers and their teachers is far greater than any risk of contracting covid.

There is absolutely no reason small private schools can not reopen. This is an equity issue that is hurting my children. Private schools can lead the way for all our schools to reopen.

They had a great plan and to safely reopen schools here in PSD. He overstepped his authority and pulled the rug out.

He has acted without the support of this Board, and takes no consideration into what is best for each local school district. Additionally his actions are discriminatory against small private schools. The White House has deemed schools and teachers as essential workers; yet he goes against this guideline as well as CDC and AAP guidance.

Covid mortality is 0.05% and for ages 0-14 the mortality is 0.00036%. More children have died from the flu in each of the last 5 flu seasons than so far from covid. Let the kids go to school.
