Superintendent Runcie still struggles to promote the core mission of the Broward County School Board amidst the continued decline of public trust, who doubts that he can finish the [$800 million bond] in a timely fashion and deploy the [2018] referendum as promised," as said by Nora Rupert of the Broward County School Board. Runcie has failed across the board and is now bringing politics into the classroom. On June 1st Runcie sent out the attached message.

My view is that if you're going to have students involved in authentic politics, then it's really important to make sure you have issues for which there are multiple and competing views, and you don't give students the impression that there's a political view that they should be working toward.

Runcie is continuing to fail our community by getting involved with politics that do not need to be and should not be addressed in our schools. Our curriculums already call for education on racism in our country and our schools should continue to educate our children on this issue and help them to understand our history while promoting equality.

Our children should not be bullied into believing one line of rhetoric that paints all police as brutal and a failing system. These children have parents who are on all sides of this debate, black parents, white parents, police officer parents, criminal parents, and school is not the place for a rally. Our schools should be a safe haven for our children, free from partisan arguments and issues. They get enough of that at home, on tv, on radio and on billboards. Our children face this in every other area of life, so school should be a safe place where they do not fear persecution for expressing a view or even reiterating one they have heard around the dinner table from their parents.
