Faneuil Hall, a famous market place and historical site in Boston, contains a dark secret not many are informed about. Peter Faneuil, whom the hall was named after as he was the benefactor of this hall, was a wealthy merchant who made lots of money due to the Triangular Trade, which was based off the profit of enslaved people. Due to this, having Peter Faneuil's name as the name of the hall is offensive, and needs to be changed. However, changing the name to one of an abolitionist, may not be the right answer.

Over time, people may forget that Peter Faneuil was the original donor of this hall, which was crucial to the trading and economy of Boston. Faneuil Hall still is a marketplace, and has expanded to fit Quincy Market. What is proposed here is to change the hall's name to one of neither person, but one of that speaks of the freedom and the rich history of the hall. Faneuil Hall is already nicknamed the Cradle of Liberty, so changing the name to Liberty Hall would be very fitting, and represents its rich history of civil rights movements, as well as the many abolitionists who spoke inside the hall to fight for rights.

Peter Faneuil won't be forgotten, either, as plaques could be made inside to remember the man who donated a powerful and historic building to the city of Boston. Let your voice be heard to change this issue today.
