As concerned and involved parents within the Tarrytown Union Free School District, we are writing to the TUFSD School Board and Superintendent to voice our support for Joseph Engelhardt.
His tenure as Assistant Principal at Sleep Hollow Middle School gives Mr. Engelhardt invaluable insight into the needs of the Middle School community. He has served our community, including its students, teachers, and administrative staff under Principal Lopez for a number of years. He’s proven himself as a popular, fair, and engaging partner in the education of our children.
With the recent news of Ms. Lopez’ retirement, it is our hope that Mr. Engelhardt will be given the courtesy of being given due consideration to step up to the role of Principal. We firmly believe this would be in the best interests of the children and the rest of the community. Maintaining some familiarity in the leadership of the school will do much to mitigate the disruption that an outside candidate who may not be familiar with our schools, our district and our community at large.

Mr. Engelhardt is well respected by kids and parents. He demonstrates great commitment to the kids and takes the time to engage with parents in meaningful, insightful and professional dialogue. He is a significant asset to the school and the district.
Mr. Engelhardt has been a fantastic asset to the middle school. My children and I have great respect for him and his leadership qualities as well as his wonderful rapport with students and parents. We feel that the Sleepy Hollow Middle School community would greatly benefit from Mr. Engelhardt taking on the position of MS principal.
I think Mr. Engelhardt would make a terrific Principal and wold fully support him in this role. I have seen and experienced him consistently engaging with students and parents in a genuine, supportive and caring manner.
I feel the school will benefit to have Mr Engelhardt
Mr. Englehardt embodies what a parent could hope for in a MS Principal. He is smart, empathetic, fair, hardworking, a great communicator and has vision for the school and students. His emphasis is always "what is in the best interest of our students"; children respect him, and teachers seem to hold him in high regard as well. He has been a tremendous asset to the MS and from our family's perspective, he would make a wonderful Principal in this building. Lastly, elevating Mr. Englehardt would provide a sense of continuity for the kids as they have had tremendous administrative turnover these past years. The current 6th graders have had 4 different superintendents and six different Principals during their K-6 years - Mr. E. can provide stability and has the skill to elevate standards at this school .
Mr. Engelhardt has been a great representative to the school and his work is enhanced by his ability to get to know students.

I have worked very closely with Mr Englehardt for close to 3 years now and he is completely committed and caring and hard working vice principal. He clearly cares deeply for the students and all the students I have ever spoken to always report how much they like and trust him. He knows the community, the school, everything, we need continuity, we need Mr. Englehardt to stay on and be out principal.
