The parole board has denied his request and he is staying behind bars. I am overwhelmed by the kindness you showed Melissa and her family by putting your names to this effort. This result belongs entirely to you.
In 1991, Emmerson Anthony Roberts beat raped and strangled 7 year old Melissa Basterache in his home on Whitney Avenue in Moncton. Her body was found hidden in a closet. Melissa's family is fighting to keep her killer locked up and will attend Roberts' parole hearing in Bath, Ontario next week. In a victim impact statment obtained by the Times and Transcript, Basterache's aunt Gail Daigle says her niece's killer will never fully pay for his evil crime and she's certain he will rot in hell. Prior to their trip, Melissa's family will gather names on petition, from those who also feel Roberts should be kept behind bars.
When the police interviewed the children in the park a block away, 14 other children said they had been in his home before.
I was 6 years old when this happened, I couldn't do anything then. This is what I can do today. Please sign the petition and forward on so that we can support her aunt Gaile Daigle in trying to keep Emmerson Anthony Roberts in jail.
I knew Melissa. And her brother that was 2 years older( bless his heart, I was fond of him too) I used to feed her at Birchmount. I keep checking every one in awhile to see if Emerson is
still locked up. I’ll raise bloody hell if he’s ever released

This girl was my friend. I was one of the last to see her alive. We were hanging out of a few hours before she went missing. I remember she was going to ask her mom if she could go to centennial park with my grandmother and I and I never saw her again. I'm 35 and to this day she is on my mind and in memory and she will for the rest of my years. Please keep this garbage "human" in jail.

I grew up in that neighborhood and we were all terrified. Poor sweet girl. This monster needs to stay exactly where he is.
