I am asking everyone to please read and sign this petition!

On March 10th 1990 a 12 year old child was taken from us due to the evil, malicious, and downright sick acts of a murder. Bradley Maddux was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, friend, and so much more to the Westport Indiana community. Douglas Sims took Brad from this community. Took a son away from two loving parents Daryl and Patti Maddux. Took a brother away from Cody and Lindsay Maddux. Douglas Sims left this small town absolutely terrified and heartbroken. It has been only twenty years since the evil acts of this man took place and now he is asking for clemency. He wants to come back to our community and live his life. What about the life he took? What about the family and community this man destroyed? This man murdered a child. On March 10th the Maddux family lost a part of their life because of this man. Please help us make sure he does not get out of prison and be able to live his life. I am asking everyone who does not want this murder in our community to please support us and sign this petition to keep him in prison.

Updates

April 9, 2010

I just looked at the count and hit one thousand signatures which feels huge but also just the start of making sure this stays in the right place because it honestly still feels so heavy to think about what the Maddux family went through. Getting this many people on board helps me feel like we have a real shield for them and I just want to pause for a second to thank the people who pass this around even when it hurts to talk about it.

I just saw the counter tick over to one hundred and my heart is honestly racing because I never expected this to move so fast. It is totally overwhelming to think about how many people actually care about Brad and keeping the community safe because sometimes I really worry that people just forget the past so easily.

I keep staring at the numbers and we are honestly just right there at 100 which feels like a real bridge to something bigger. If you could just send the link to a few people right now it would mean the world because we really cannot let this slide when the hearing gets closer.

This isn’t “Shonkie”, the former town marshall, but his son, i remember “Peppermint Patty” as my dad called her. My heart goes out to the entire Maddux family and friends. I cannot see how allowing such a monster back into the community will help anyone, if anything, it’s a slap in the face to the entire town of Westport!

My husband was murdered and living that was a nightmare, i can't imagine my child being taken from me. I pray they keep this man behind bars. His family does not need to live the nightmare over anymore than they already do and seeing this man free would cause the family worse stress and fear.

Doug is obviously a monster. I remember him from when I was a kid. He was always hanging around the park, and was an oddball. I am actually related to him, and was about 13 years old when this happened. He should NEVER be released.

This was my nephew. This man should have gotten the death penalty. If he gets out no child would be safe. Keep him in prison, where he belongs for the rest if his life.

This man doesn’t deserve to be free let alone roam the streets of Westport. I am a teen currently living in Westport and I, myself and many others would not feel safe if he were to be let out to walk the streets of Westport and surrounding communities.

I just heard today from a coworker from Westport that Douglas Sims might be released. Growing up in Westport I remember when this happened and how horrible it was and how terrible I felt for the family. Douglas Simms is a monster that needs never see the light of day. Douglas Simms needs to stay in prison.

Douglas C. Sims was released sept. 9, 2019. He is not required to register as a sex offender by law due to the crime occurring before the law went into effect requiring the offenders to register. (2007) Heather

my dad knew him personally and he told me the story of what happened, and knowing that he just got released from prison and is walking the streets after doing what he did makes me feel incredibly unsafe since i’m a younger girl.
