This petition is opposed to the proposed 1.5 metre cyclone fence running diagonally through Elsternwick park segregating dog walkers from one side of Elsternwick Park. Further, the installation of the fence was not discussed with Bayside residents in particular dog owners, whom are the greatest number and most frequent users of the park. The fence motion was apparently passed by Council in October 2009 after an agreement by Bayside Council that year, to consult widely with interested residents prior to making any significant changes to the park. This has not been done. In fact notification of fence installation to residents consisted of 2 A4 sheets in 8pt font, two working days prior to construction on March 31, 2010. This is both insufficient consultation and notification. We ask that further discussion and consultation take place prior to such a major construction. It should be noted, the majority of residents have always been in favour of constructing a proper, permanent fence around the lake, to protect wildlife.
