UPDATE: Dumas ISD parents, after having the privilege to meet with Monty Hysinger, Brett Beasley, and Kelly Legg I am very proud to report that our school leaders have the best interest of our kids at heart. They will be changing the policy in regards to testing kids at school. Proud of our small town accomplishing big things together! I was reminded today of how passionate our administrators are about keeping our children safe and at school! Please see the attached for all the information on the revised policy!
On September 2, 2021 Dumas ISD, namely Superintendent Monty Hysinger and Assistant Superintendent Brett Beesly released a Facebook Live video rolling out a new COVID-19 testing policy for all students and staff of Dumas ISD. This new policy requires students and staff that have had "close contact" to either submit to COVID testing at school every other day or to go home for and quarantine for 10 days. Regardless of whether or not symptoms are present. The tests they are using are the BinaxNow Antigen Tests from Abbot Labs. On the BinaxNow informational pamphlet it clearly states that these tests are intended for use within 7 days of onset of symptoms. These tests are NOT valid for asymptomatic testing. This means that we as parents are being told to submit our children to unnecessary testing. School should be a safe place for our children, without inflicting daily trauma with unnecessary testing. It should be further stated that DISD is the only district I have found in our area exposing our children to this unnecessary tactic. DISD is claiming this testing is optional, but have basically given parents an ultimatum. Instilling fear and inflicting trauma on our children through this draconian testing protocol has to stop now. I’m thankful and supportive of the hard work and the common sense approach that DISD has taken in most issues. On this issue, I believe it’s unnecessary and not the best course of action.
My child is scared to go to school as she whiteness children being tested at the lunchbtable! This is not ok
My child WILL NOT be tested for Covid as a requirement to attend school, and should not be kept home for 10 days because someone else is sick. Asinine! Let kids be kids.
Kids have enough to worry about. Without having to worry about testing everyday! They should be allowed to go to school in peace and learn!! If they feel like they are sick then the parents can take them to get tested..
I am completely against this mandatory testing .people are barely getting back in their feet financially so paying for extra childcare and these tests put extra financial stress on parents and teachers

No one should be tested unless they have symptoms but above all it is the parents decision. We the people do have our constitutional rights and it appears to me DISD has crossed the line on this issue.
