PLEASE SIGN PETITION TO STOP INDUSTRIAL SIZE CHICKEN CFO FROM POLLUTING GOOSE LAKE AND AREA RESIDENTS.
This petition is to call upon Galen Miller, President and owner of Miller Poultry to immediately terminate the CAFO production contract with Adlock Broiler, LLC and Sarah and Joe Lopez at 5300 N 250W, Columbia City, IN, 46725.
We oppose: because its close proximity to residents and lakes can
- Cause serious harm to the health and quality of life of its neighbors.
- Pollute our air and destroy our water/watershed.
- Lower the value of our homes and farmsteads.
- Deplete Whitley County’s revenues and decrease the economic viability of our community. AND
- Adlock Broiler, LLC, does not appear to be in keeping with the Miller Poultry Brand as defined on the Miller webpage: “Miller Poultry chickens are raised primarily by Amish families in smaller flocks. While they are free to roam within the chicken house…they are fed an all-vegetable, drug free diet and are hormone and antibiotic free.” We do not consider 160,000 chickens a ‘smaller flock’, nor do we expect these chickens will have much space for ‘free to roam”.

I am currently compiling the stories you have sent me about the potential impact of this facility on our water and property values. Please email your local Whitley County commissioners today to demand they address these concerns directly. We need to keep pressure on Miller Poultry until they acknowledge that this location is unacceptable.

Water draining this land ends up in Goose Lake, by the owners own admission during testimony given in a public meeting.....
Our lakes need protection from this potential pollution source. Goose Lake is already a lake that doesn't have ideal oxygen saturation levels due to extra phosphorus and other other agriculturally used chemicals in the water shed.
If the Indiana Dept. of Invironment Management and/or your company are not willing to act responsibly towards the health, lives, waters and natural resources of the citizens of Indiana, Whitley County and Goose Lake I will stop buying Miller Poultry product.I will also try to convince my friends and acquaintances in the Chicago area to do the same.
I work my entire life to retire at a wonderful and healthy Lake. How can an intelligent person’s brain believe that this is healthy for our environment to have type of farm in a lake watershed.
I say hell no. Goose lake already has enough run off from Waugh farms that is causing algae outbreaks.
Can't believe chickens are treated so inhumanely.

CAFO are more than the environment can support, They are especially toxic to the environment where there can be runoff into our waterways. The cleanup for the CAFOs will fall on the taxpayers, not the land owners or corporations supplied by the CAFOs.
