If you've read the most recent Lake Breeze you've seen the proposed amendment to ban chickens in Lake Lucerne.
Apparently this issue has been discussed by the board for a number of years but only recently did they decide to bring the very strict language to vote.
Currently I don't know of another family in the Lake with chickens but have had positive feedback from a lot of you. I don't think now is the time to be more restrictive on chickens due to the fact that many communities are spending money to reverse chicken bans.

To those of you whom my chickens have annoyed please please reach out to me. I greatly apologize and would be happy to talk to you about ways in which I can remedy the situation. I can't fix a problem that I don't know exists. Instead of hiding behind our volunteer board members, call, text, email, or anonymously put a note in my mailbox. Let's solve this like friendly neighbors, not bogging down our board and paying lawyers to write amendments!
The intent of this petition is to let our board know that we do NOT want to add restrictive language to our deed restrictions.
Sign the petition if you feel inclined! Let me know if you'd like more information, or if my chickens, kids, or husband have been a nuisance to you!!! I can and will take action

I have been hearing from many neighbors who believe we should focus on community building rather than restrictive bylaws. Please reach out to me directly if you have concerns because I would much rather resolve this over a cup of coffee than through a legal amendment.

Seeing this kind of support reminds me that most of us just want to solve problems over a conversation rather than through restrictive rules. My family really feels the weight of your backing as we fight to keep our backyard flock here in Lake Lucerne.

We live next door to the Foxes and have enjoyed seeing their chickens in the yard. I am not in favor of a legal restriction regarding chickens, especially in Lake Lucerne where I think residents have a long history of getting along and working things out.
I think its great having chickens (and eggs)! It is also a good experience for children. I don't have any myself, but have no problem with neighbors having them.
I have visited Katie's house and have observed the beautiful birds she and her family meticulously care for. They are a treasure of nature, and contribute to the nuanced and diverse nature that makes Lake Lucerne such a unique and special place.
Writing restrictive laws and deeds will only cause more problems at a later date. This is a slippery slope with animal restrictions. What's next? Restricting who is allowed to buy a home in the lake, housing colors, number of children, yard signs?
I agree that if there are concerns regarding the chickens that an all out ban is not the answer. Perhaps what would be more in line with Lake Lucerne would be guidelines on number of chickens allowable, coop placement and "nuissance plan" if they get loose - but I feel this should be for all domestic animals on a property, not just chickens.
I will also work to repeal the ban if it passes. Chickens are welcome here in my world.
The amendment is overly vague and opens the Lake/residents up to a number of fights down the road. Are rabbits for 4H livestock? What is a nuisance animal and does one report of a barking dog mean a removal letter from the Board? I am not strongly for or against the chickens, but think it's worth discussing as a community before any amendments or votes are considered. I don't know if you still have the rooster, but having been both a city and a country girl, think our houses are too close together for roosters. They also tend to be what most people find objectionable about backyard chickens.

We're 3 doors down and aren't disturbed by the chickens - we appreciate them. Are people hearing them? We don't, so I'm in the dark on this. If there are issues, maybe there can be guidelines that would satisfy any specific opposers' issues (number of chickens per size of property, etc) without banning them outright.
