PETITION OPPOSING PROPOSED HOG CONFINEMENT (CAFO) IN SOMERSET COUNTY, PA. USA
I am taking a stand and becoming involved in the well being of my community. Factory Farms (CAFOs) have been scientifically proven to be harmful in many ways and more scientific proof is surfacing each day.
We, the undersigned residents of Somerset County and Peoples of the U.S. strongly oppose the proposed confined animal feeding operations (CAFO):
A 4800 head swine CAFO, owned by: Greg Croner, Beachdale Farms Inc. and another proposed by Leydig CAFO, Keith and Denise Leydig located at: Crossroad School Road and Swamp Creek Road, Garrett, PA. USA
We oppose: because its close proximity to residents can (1) cause harm to the health and quality of life of its neighbors and workers (2) pollute our air and destroy our water /watershed (3) lower the value of our home and farmsteads (4) deplete our county’s revenues and decrease the economic viability of our community and (5) run family farmers out of business. **Not to mention the extreme abuse of the animals confined and raised in these in these operations.Please join us and sign!

I HAVE BEEN SPENDING MY ENTIRE WEEK ANALYZING THE NEWEST ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES ON WATER POLLUTION AND THE RESULTS ARE ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING!! WE ARE FIGHTING TO PROTECT OUR HOMES AND OUR AIR FROM THESE FACTORY FARMS BECAUSE THIS COMMUNITY DESERVES BETTER THAN POISONED LANDS!!

THE MOMENTUM IS ABSOLUTELY EXPLODING RIGHT NOW!! I AM BEYOND EXCITED TO SEE SO MANY PEOPLE WAKING UP TO THE DANGERS FACING SOMERSET COUNTY!! WE ARE SENDING A MASSIVE MESSAGE THAT WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED!!

i grew up in Brothersvalley Township, on a farm, and our pigs were treated humanely. I find factory farming deplorable.
I've lived in this township for 32 years and am amazed at what people will do to get richer at the expense of their neighbors. There are so many things people could do that would benefit the area instead of polluting and destroying our land.
We need ordinances in this county to regulate these CAFO's. Now they have the right to devalue my property, to make me sick, to ruin my air and water and keep me from enjoying my yards with my grandkids. We need to change this.
These kind of barns should be banned from being built it is not good for the environment and the animals if you want to raise animals do it like a normal Farmer would do with a farm and pasture not almost 5,000 animals in a barn that never get to see the outside.
My family has spent most of their lives living on the land in this very location. My grandparents used to farm the land there and they have retired and enjoyed the golden years there on a piece of the land they saved when they sold the farm. My uncle and his wife have dedicated their lives building a home themselves while working, going to school and successfully raising a family there and this what is their retirement. To live there and enjoy the view. It's amazing. Breathtaking. My mother is buried close to their and I wish for her childhood home to be kept a safe and clean place for the families there now to raise their children and make memories much like the ones she always shared with me.

Iowa's Republican Governor's Branstad/Reynolds have not Enforced the Clean Water Act or Iowa's 16 Drainage Laws in Iowa on some Large Corporate Farmers and Big Industrial CAFO's to increase the profits of Branstad Family Farms and Grassley's Farms. Point Source Contamination of Iowa's Source Waters, like the Cedar Valley Group Aquifers, endangers the health of 500,000 Iowans. Contaminating the Water for 3 wells for Cedar Falls, at least one for Waterloo, and the Water for the University of Iowa, along with many smaller public and private wells. Iowa's State Auditor audited Iowa's Dept. of Natural Resources and found the State of Iowa and the Iowa DNR were not Enforcing the Clean Water Act's Anti-Degradation Laws in 2009 and later in 2015 or 2016. My Appeal 17-1933 of my Civil Rights case CVCV046761 is set for Disposition, I'm hoping the State of Iowa will Reinstall Adam Lack's USDA-NRCS Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation Version Three (RUSLE3) that Trump's Republicans REDACTED in February of 2017. I live by two hog confinements each of them are 4999 head units they are horrible foul-smelling and the air quality is terrible but they keep letting Reicks View Farms build. They even get away with being called a small family farm and they have well over 200 employees.
