Did you know that health care professionals on staff can limit you to how many people you have in your delivery room What if you wanted your partner, your mother, and a support professional such as a doula, but were told that you must choose and only have TWO!!
There is evidenced-based research supporting that women benefit from continuous support during labour. These include:
-Increased Apgar score
-Reduced need for pain medication
-Decreased in Caesarian deliveries
-Increase in successful breastfeeding
-Favourable maternal views of the childbirth experience
-Shorter labour periods
-Decreases risk of post-partum depression
(Hodnett, Hoffmeyer, & Sakala, 2007; Pascali-Bonaro & Kroger, 2004; Medves, 2002)
FINALLY....No evidence of medical harm for unrestricted access by mother for birth companions (Leslie & Storton, 2007).
So please sign this petition which will be presented to London Health Sciences Centre for consideration of instilling a policy to allowed unrestricted access to continuous support during labour!

I was just reading through the latest comments and honestly the stories people are sharing about their own birth experiences are completely heartbreaking. It feels like every time I open my laptop there is another person telling me about how they were forced to choose between their mother or their doula and it just reminds me why we are even doing this in the first place.

This is ridiculous. I had to leave my mom in the waiting room while I was in labor and it was the most traumatic part of the whole experience. Women need their support system.

THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE ASAP. Having support makes a huge difference in the outcome and the trauma afterwards.

Ridiculous to limit birth partners. It is the mother's choice who she wants by her side during such a big day.
