Did you know that health care professionals on staff can limit you to how many people you have in your delivery room What if you wanted your partner, your mother, and a support professional such as a doula, but were told that you must choose and only have TWO!! There is evidenced-based research supporting that women benefit from continuous support during labour. These include: -Increased Apgar score -Reduced need for pain medication -Decreased in Caesarian deliveries -Increase in successful breastfeeding -Favourable maternal views of the childbirth experience -Shorter labour periods -Decreases risk of post-partum depression (Hodnett, Hoffmeyer, & Sakala, 2007; Pascali-Bonaro & Kroger, 2004; Medves, 2002) FINALLY....No evidence of medical harm for unrestricted access by mother for birth companions (Leslie & Storton, 2007). So please sign this petition which will be presented to London Health Sciences Centre for consideration of instilling a policy to allowed unrestricted access to continuous support during labour!
