Attention Urbana Dog Owners!
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a Dog Park in Urbana that you could walk to and get to know your neighbor's and their furry friends? I have been in contact with Bob Hicks, the Deputy Director of Frederick County Parks and Recreation regarding the feasability of building a Dog Park in one of Urbana's Parks. Below is a transcript from our communication:
"Thank you for your email and interest in a dog park in the Urbana area. Please know that there is not a dog park indicated in either the Urbana Community Park or Urbana District Park Master Plans. However, that does not mean that a dog park couldn’t be considered in the future.
The Division of Parks and Recreation has received some emails from citizens that has expressed interest in a dog park at Urbana District Park. If you know of other individuals who are interested, please feel free to past along my information and have them contact me directly and I will keep a record of the level of interest in such a facility. If there is enough demonstrated interest, a dog park would be considered in the future, based on available funding and gaining appropriate approvals."
Please keep in mind this request is not without precedence...The Dog Park in Ballenger Creek was built a few years ago precisely because residents requested it!

I have been reviewing the recent comments and appreciate the stories about our community needs. I am currently organizing a formal proposal to submit to the Parks and Recreation office to ensure our request remains on the official agenda.

The level of interest demonstrated by this community has confirmed that a dog park is a priority for many residents. This ongoing momentum provides the evidence required to continue our constructive dialogue with the Division of Parks and Recreation.

I just moved back to this area, and have been amazed at how much Urbana has developed. The one thing I think is missing from this growing community is a dog park! I have always enjoyed going to dog parks in the places I live, both to get my dog some exercise and meet with people in my community. Please build a dog park in Urbana!
Put the park on the vacant corner lot across from the Centerville school. The lot looks terrible anyway! It has rocks, glass and construction debris in it.
A dog park would be perfect especially with all the Green space we have. It would also limit our neighbors from letting their dogs run loosely in the neighborhood in lieu of s park
We moved here from Ballenger Creek 4 years ago and we miss the dog park more than anything. We make the drive up to Ballenger occasionally but if we built a dog park in Urbana we'd go there 3 times a week if not more.
We would love to have a dog park in Urbana! We are parents of 2 labs! Thanks!

A dog park in Urbana would be amazing! I have never lived in a community before that didn't have one, until moving here. Urbana has more dogs in this area than almost anywhere else I've lived before (and we have lived all over the world). It would also keep the neighborhoods cleaner since dogs would have a designated place to go run & relieve themselves. It makes for a happier community too and Urbana can definitely afford it.
