The Leicester City Council is planning to put a cycle path across COSSINGTON Park in Belgrave. Taking away much needed green playing space from people that live in Belgrave.
The Leicester City Council has not consulted sports groups or local people that use the park or live in the area!??. The feeling is amongst most people that live in the Belgrave area is that the council have taken it upon themselves during the lockdown to place the cycle path right across the park without properly consultation
There is no need to have this particular cycle path to be placed right across COSSINGTON Park when there is an existing cycle path right around the whole park which needs the attention.
Please help us stop Leicester City Council wasting tax payers money and saving green playing space by signing this petition.
We are a small local football team that need your support....Help us remove this SCAR from the face of Belgrave... #OurBelgrave

Seeing one hundred people stand up for our playing field makes me realize that our team is not fighting this battle alone. My heart is full knowing that so many of you care about protecting our green space from this unnecessary construction project.

Our pitch is being carved up and I am not going to sit back while it happens. We need this total to break the hundred mark before I head to the council offices to demand some real answers about our green space.

I grew up in the area and know how important that green area is for the local people. A cycle path is not appropriate and will be a barrier to many cultural activities and festivals in that area. I am strongly against a cycle path and support this petition.
Me and my children use this park regularly that open green space is the only area I feel safe to let my little girl run free as the paths are well spaced out!! By putting a path through the middle this will cause more issues and even harm to little children.
Residents, the local community and users need to be consulted. Where's the demand for a cycle path from the public for this? What's the business case for it? If there's no demand, there should be no reason to waste tax payers money nor inconvenience users that use the grounds for recreational purposes.
Absolutely not recommended. We have only a small portion of green fields where we play cricket and football on. There are no other alternatives around this patch. There is already a path around the the park which is and can continue to be used as cycle path
LCC, not a good idea, to put a cycle path in the middle of the only green, densely used small place in Belgrave. If you have spare cash, use it to improve the Belgrave Library or the Sports Center.
I personally oppose the new path which has come up. Infact, there wasn’t any need to lay a path and disturb the playground.
The prize goes to LCC for the dumbest idea of the year - you couldn’t make it up if you tried

Proposal restricts flexibility of usable surface - often multiple football and crickets games are in progress at any given time. Proposal will reduce number of games by limiting nesting area. In addition, proposed cycle path runs directly thru an area historically used for 11-a-side football pitch.
