Final supporters
There are over 100,000 Muslims in Connecticut, and yet their major holidays, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, aren't being observed by schools. Muslim students have always had to choose between honoring the sacred days on their calendar or attending school, which is a choice no student should ever have to make. Others agree with me; that is why Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that all schools in New York City will close to observe Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha and that is why New Jersey City mayor Steve Fulop has noted that not closing schools for a Muslim holiday is a ‘missed opportunity’. Therefore, all public schools in CT should be closed on both Eid holidays.

Seeing this conversation grow beyond single communities reminds me that the need for inclusive school calendars is felt across our entire state. It is heartening to see so many people recognize that our students deserve to honor their faith without having to sacrifice their education.

Muslim holidays should be observed in Connecticut schools to promote practice of religious believes and to show Muslim students that their practices are also accepted and respected in this wonderful country that accepts and respects all people from diverse background. Thank you
If schools in CT are observing juish holdays. They shoud observed Mislim holidays too. No discrimination in USA
Its not fair that my kids have to miss important tests just to celebrate with their family. Treat everyone the same and give them the day off.
Please continue to tell other CT residents-- family, friends, family friends, peers, teachers, colleagues, etc. about this petition! The only way anyone will take us seriously is if we can prove that we really want this to happen. Thank you.
With every new signature, we are closer to earning a right-- the ability to spend our holidays in peace!
