Since we are all “friends and fans” of River Road, we wanted to alert you to something that could negatively affect our Scenic Byway.
The City is reviewing a proposal to build a Concrete Plant to be placed on River Road near Marine Sales & Service. A Zoning request change is in the works and there was a meeting that about 50 neighbors attended on Jan. 26th at the Ramada on Zorn Avenue. Many of us attended as we are concerned about MORE large trucks, the industrial type of increased traffic, and a visually unappealing Concrete Plant being placed there.
If you want, you can call the law office Bardenwerper, Talbott, & Roberts, PLLC at 502-426-6688 to state your concern about the Concrete Plant. They are the Attorney firm handling this and will be feeding back information to the Concrete Plant Company regarding the public opposition.., or lack thereof.

A while back, the city branded the economic development effort as "Louisville Forward." In light of this nightmare project, I think she needs to considering renaming that effort "Louisville Backward."
Check out Speed Indiana, north of Sellersburg, for an idea what a cement plant looks like. Dust covers everything has for decades. Not to mention all the heavy truck traffic causing a hazard and damaging River Road.
Too much effort has been invested in beautifying the waterfront to allow a business like this and its accompanying traffic to take us backwards. Also, given the heavy usage of River Road by cyclists, this seems like a deadly combination.
Our community worked for years to reclaim the waterfront from industrial use so it could be turned into greenspace that all our citizens could enjoy. Why would we take the River Road corridor back 30+ years?
Move something like this out of the city. With the Botanical Garden going in, why would we add another industrial business that would take away from that? This is a growing, expanding area that needs more storefronts, not things like concrete plants.
The area is developing nicely and is becoming more urban residential and restaurants, etc. Dont spoil the momentum as this can be a real growth engine for Louisville.
This is why I'll be voting against Greg Fischer in the next election and voting for whoever gets on the ballot and is a real Democrat. Fischer is a Democrat in name only. Between nonsense "economic development" projects such as this one and nonsense vanity projects like the "50,000 degrees" project to keep people like David Jones' wife busy, this city is a MESS. Jerry Abramson was a disaster and Fischer is nothing more than his boy. Most of the Abramson people are still running this city. I just read about all the "local leaders" who are sad to see Donna Hargens go. These people are not leaders. They just happen to have a lot of money and feel like that entitles them to set the agenda in this city. Every single one of these people: Greg Fischer, David Jones, Kent Oyler, Matt Bevin, Papa Johns, Christy Brown, etc., the whole lot of them need to be given a one way ticket across the bridge to Indiana. Socialism for the richest Louisvillians and capitalism for the rest -- that and a runaway opium epidemic that is the worst in the nation is the real legacy of Greg Fischer's Louisville.

River Road and the assets between it and Frankfort, as well as the Waterfront, must be protected for the public good. These are quite possibly the most valuable land in our region. More large truck traffic will also further the walkable and bikeable potential between Clifton and Butchertown
