This petition calls for the manning of Gate 5 at Lagae Road in Castle Pines Village (CPV). Gate 5 is the northern entrance to CPV and with the completion of the Toll Brothers development is heavily used by homeowners. However, Gate 5 is only manned part-time Monday through Friday with zero coverage on the weekends. Additionally, Gate 5 is in close proximity to Interstate 25 via Castle Pines Parkway and the Vickers Ranch open area. North area CPV residents are concerned by recent criminal activity in the community and believe that it is past due that Gate 5 be manned. A full-time officer would both act as a deterrent to anyone with criminal intent and as a quick responder to any emergency calls. As an example, on June 7, 2008, a CPV family living within 100 yards of Gate 5 had their home broken into shortly after midnight. Although their alarm was sufficient to scare away the intruder and CPV security was contacted, the criminal was able to escape capture. It is reasonable to assume that had a security officer been present at Gate 5, the criminal would have been apprehended or probably would have never attempted the crime in the first place. North area CPV residents are also concerned by the amount of vehicle traffic that goes unscreened during the evening and weekends. It is not uncommon to see vehicles closely follow another through the gate without using a pass. With the large volume of residents/guests that use this gate, it is reasonable to expect a security officer should be present to screen guests and deter uninvited entrants. We, the undersigned, believe that Gate 5 should be manned full-time due to security concerns and the large volume of vehicle traffic that the sole northern entrance to CPV generates. CPV residents who reside, and use, the northern entrance should not have to rely on security officers stationed near the southern entrance to screen guests and provide security.
