The Florida Department of Transportation is soon going to begin construction on the widening of State Rd. 15 - Hoffner Ave.

Although we very happy that this construction is finally taking place, we are asking that the FDOT please consider the already loud noise and safety concerns that exist at the perimeter of the Conway Acres Community (Intersection of Semoran & Hoffner). We are asking that they would build a perimeter wall to help keep the impact of this new construction from hurting our residents.

The FDOT project team has already confirmed that the noise level is above the standard threshold even before the widening. But they refuse to build the wall stating it is due to the extra cost in moving utilities and a minimal number of homes impacted. When in fact 23 homes are on the perimeter directly and are over 50 homes are impacted by the noise level currently. As well as the over 30 homes that were not assisted in their noise complaints after the widening of Semoran Blvd years ago.

We also believe this wall could also help to beautify the intersection which is located just a few miles from our largest tourism destination the Orlando International Airport. Creating an inviting and friendly entrance into the Conway Community instead of the back yards of residents who have little to no safety or privacy from the increased traffic.

Our Petition:

The SR 15 (Hoffner Avenue) Widening Project, as written in FDIP 239266-4-52-01, will widen Hoffner Avenue to within mere feet of the Conway Acres residential properties along the route. This proposed plan would increase the volumes and sounds of the traffic, would remove the safety of a ditch that has separated the traffic from the property lines.

We, the undersigned, being concerned members of the Conway Community, urge our community and state leaders to act now to incorporate a Highway Sound Wall Barrier as part of the above mentioned highway widening project. The areas requested will include all residential properties, including the Conway Acres subdivision, throughout this project where sound, security, and most importantly, safety will be compromised by the widening of Hoffner Avenue.
