Background:
NE 62 Street has become a major thoroughfare for drivers between Federal Highway and I-95. The increase in traffic volume and the higher speeds has led to safety implications for the residents of Imperial Point particularly those who's residences line 62 Street between NE 18th and Federal Highway.
Over the years the increase in traffic has led to multiple accidents. Most recently a resident walking her dogs was struck by a car who drove onto the sidewalk in order to avoid rear ending a left turning car. That resident is currently hospitalized in serious condition. The residents of Imperial Point are in agreement that traffic on 62 Street must be better managed.
Therefore, this petition is in support of the installation of stop sign(s) (locations TBD) on 62 Street to reduce speed on the street.
Proposal:
Install stop sign(s) on 62nd Street between NE 18th Avenue and Federal Highway to reduce speed in residential Imperial Point.
Solution:
Installation of stop sign(s) will reduce speeding drivers and result in pedestrian safety and improved traffic flow.
Long Term Benefits:
- Ensure pedestrian safety for residents of Imperial Point.

The momentum behind this initiative reflects a shared commitment to the safety of our neighborhood streets. It is clear that the current traffic conditions on 62nd Street are no longer acceptable to the people who reside here.

I agree with the rest of people. If you try to get off the side street to 62 you have to wait a good 6 minutes for the traffic to lighten up . The cars are whizzing by
The traffic and the speed in which people drive on 62nd street has become an increasing problem. As a resident of Imperial Point there are days when I have to pull out onto oncoming traffic just to get passage. I have seen cars go on the grass to go around cars. We need help otherwise more accidents are going to occur. Thank you
I think speed humps would be a great idea in place of stop signs. People still roll though stop signs. I run along bayview and those stop signs are rolled through often. Definitely need to do something about this issue. Living along 62st can be scary at times and that accident happened across the street from me.
I agree that traffic must be calmed here on NE 62 St./Cypress Creek Road and McNab. Folks drive on these residential streets like they're on I-95. I'm not sure about stop signs, but I would be interested in a study about the idea that roundabouts may alternatively slow things down...
I have lived here over 25 years. Each year there is another accident that can be avoided.
Drivers drive way too fast for the neighborhood.

This needs to be taken seriously. Just last week I was walking to Dottie Mancini Park with my 13mo and a woman ran the red light at the crosswalk. If I hadn't know better than to wait a bit once walking was permitted she would've hit us.
