A CALL FOR ACTION FROM THE VILLAGE OF EL PORTAL OFFICIAL REGARDING SPEEDING ON 87TH STREET
We the residents of EL PORTAL implore the City of El Portal Officials, Police Chief & Police Department, Mayor and Village Council Members to help us take action with a serious problem in speeding in El Portal.
We have witnessed numerous encounters of intense speeding in our neighborhood, including NE 87th Street between NE 2nd Avenue and N Miami Avenue. Our streets are filled with many households of young children and owners with pets and we fear for their safety, especially since there are no sidewalks and very low lighting at dusk and night. Overall speeding in El Portal is a very serious issues that must be addressed.
We demand the Village to put measures in place to control the speeding of vehicles traveling though our neighborhood. First and foremost there should be be an increased police presence to stop and ticket the speeding offenders. This measure can take affect immediately.
In addition, the Village should investigate additional speed reduction measures such as:
-Posting speed limit signs.
-Investigation and installation of speed slowing devices such as speed bumps, speed humps, speed cushions, speed tables or a round-a-bout.
-Investigation and installation of change of surface designs for 87th Street <ex: brick at intersections> for 87th street like between NE 2nd Avenue and City Hall.
This petition is meant to show support from the neighborhood of these measures and is a plea from those in charge of The Village of El Portal.

I was walking the dog earlier and a car just flew past us again which honestly makes my stomach turn thinking about the kids who play near the street. I keep emailing the village office and checking my inbox every five minutes but it is just total radio silence from them so far. We have to keep pushing because I know I am not the only one who feels like we are living in a giant racetrack right now.

I live on 86 St no sidewalks I see people walking and cars going at probably 45 miles an hour one of this days if we don’t do anything about we’re going to see tragedy
Please we need speed bumps in el portal, there are a lot of NoN residents using our neighborhood as a cut through and racing down the streets going 45. I’m on NE 88th st and they fly down that st to by pass NE 87th and we have a few toddlers living on that street

We live right off 87th and this is very much needed for the safety of children.
