The school has decided to keep the policy as it was. I am truly stunned by the outcome and fully credit this result to the persistence of everyone who stood by me. Let us just keep a close eye on things to make sure it stays this way.
I have been reading through the different perspectives left in the comments and it is clear that this conversation is much deeper than I first realized. Thank you for engaging with the idea that our traditions are worth preserving despite the outside pressure to change them.

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum we have built together lately. This movement has grown far beyond what I imagined possible and that is entirely due to your dedication.

It's the Battle Flag, not the Confederate flag. If you're going to protest something, at least get your facts straight.

heritage not hate, people misunderstand its meaning. I am not racist but if there was a black lives matter flag, nobody would have a problem with that or a rainbow flag. Having a confederate flag doesn't break rules, let it fly

I strongly support your position on this view because the confederate flag stands for history. People at Chiles High School are taking our history out of proportion and it violates the First amendment in the constitution where anyone should have the right to stand up for what they believe in.

The confederate flag represents our history not our hate. Keep the flag legal to have at school. Freedom of speech

I think that if IT used as a hate symbol, it should be punished. I and most everyone signing it does and won't use it as a hate symbol.

This is a disgrace and violation of the First Amendment. The people who think theyre right and morally good by banning the flag literally have the same thoughts to what a fascist does!

This whole thing is absurd. Whoever started the petition needs to shut it down. Both sides are displaying first amendment rights, but it's only causing problems and disturbing the normal flow of school. The administration is probably hoping that when school ends, the petitions end, and everyone will be singing "Kumbaya" next school year. I hope they're right, because I don't want to have to deal with hear about this anymore. It's getting pretty annoying.
Don't stop at signing, share the petition link with friends to multiply our impact
