Conservative Wandsworth Council refused planning permission for the “Homebase tower” not once but twice. Unfortunately Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, overruled Wandsworth Council’s refusal and imposed the 17 storey tower by giving consent. We want to stop this happening again.

Your local Conservative councillors are consulting on the introduction of special protected Conservation Area status around historic Old York Road and the Tonsleys.

Our suggested consultation on a Conservation Area has been prompted by the Mayor of London’s decision to impose the unpopular ‘Homebase tower’ on our community, overruling the Council’s decision to reject the original proposal.

Conservation Area status would give the local area stronger protection against unpopular large developments by forcing planning decisions to give more consideration to enhancing the area’s character and appearance.

This would aim to restrict major developments, whilst recognising the need for existing homeowners to be able to undertake ordinary residential improvements.

We, the undersigned, hereby ask Wandsworth Council to take the necessary steps towards introduction of a new Conservation Area, including a formal consultation of all local residents.

Old York 3rd and Tonsleys area deserves conservation protection. They are intrinsically London and loved by local people as evidenced by the number of owner occupiers and visitors enjoying the area unlike the ghost town around the empty flats built along the river. Get people yo live in those before building more.

Any conservation area ought to take into account the warehouse area to the west of Old York Road which will likely become residental in the years ahead. This ought to stay low rise in keeping with the Tonsleys

Please protect the neighbourhood from more developments like the Homebase site as it will destroy the charm and demand of the properties in the Tonsleys which is full of families.

I feel very strongly against Mayor overruling local council - terrible misuse of power - and everyone knows from vast research that sky high towers do not instil a sense of local community or care

I would like to object to erecting this imposing tower block in Wandsworth. This building would be totally out of character with the rest of the area and would cause a constant shadow over the residents of Old York Road and totally ruin the landscape that is currently enjoyed by the area.

There were a number of reasons for the planning being refused initially and for a second time. It is very difficult to board a busy train from Wandsworth Town during rush hour right now, which proves that the area is already overcrowded.
