As residents of the North Hall Lower Level, we are petitioning for compensation for having to live in inhumane conditions. For example: Rotting ceilings, mice, cockroaches, excessive dust, one working washer for 30 people, flooding, and stained furniture. We are paying the same price as people on other floors of this building and they do not have to deal with these conditions.

My former roommate Vivi moved in a day early to my suite(fall freshman move-in 2016-17) and reported that the entire basement was flooded and covered in mold, with deteriorated ceilings and furniture. Our suite occupants were never informed of this. We never would have known that the moldy walls had hastily been painted over right before we moved in. This is only one example of many gross oversights by Drexel University housing concerning North lower level.
Add ignoring requests for exterminators to that list.
I had moved into North Hall about 3 days earlier than the move-in date for a class and arrived to mold in the bathrooms and on the floors, a dirty kitchen and rooms, and, as a Drexel University maintenance staff personnel put it, 'an unlivable suite.' I was temporarily relocated so that the suite could be cleaned and readied, but when I and my suite mates returned, the room was almost unchanged in terms of cleanliness. As the months wore on, our suite, as with many of the other suites on the floor, had maintence issue after issue, including water-damaged ceilings and floor tiles, mold-filled showers, and a serious rodent infestation in which rats had entered residents' personal bedrooms. I, myself, had gotten sick multiple times, most likely from poor air quality or general dust and grime. After being in contact with maintenance and housing several times throughout the course of the year, I requested compensation for our time wasted and money lost in terms of health costs, especially because North Hall is the most expensive dorm to live in on campus and is definitely not worth the price, and was met with only one solution: "move out." I have since then relocated myself to a different dorm on campus, but I am still sending a final request for compensation for my own first two terms (September 2016-March 2017) and for my former neighbors' entire three terms. Worrying about the atmosphere of our dorms has taken time away from our work and studies and has in some cases made for a more stressful freshman year. When I first moved into the basement of North hall, the first thing I noticed was the fact that there was hair all over the floors. When I took a closer look, I realized that this hair had a shine to it, as if facilities had simply waxed and polished the floors without cleaning it. To this day, we have hair waxed into our floors. But, amazingly, this was the least of our problems. Somehow, Drexel was blind enough to not realize that water was actively seeping out of our kitchen floor tiles and was not dealt with until 1 week after I put a work order in. Rather than recognizing the disgusting and unlivable atmosphere, Drexel decided to move us into this pathetic excuse for a "suite". The water issue was resolved upon request, but that did mean that Drexel maintenance workers were in and out of our suites at disruptive and inconvenient times. These are just a couple of the problems that my roommates and I have had to deal with during our stay in North Hall. The fact that Drexel Facilities had to come in to "re-clean" our suite two days after moving in day (I am using quotes because I do not believe that they cleaned it in the first place) should have been enough to justify our argument. But, since that was not enough, we have had to live under these poor conditions for 9 months now.
For how much money I was required to pay by drexel housing , these living conditions have been ridiculous!!! From flooding to pest control to nearly being kicked out two weeks into school. I have already been in contact with housing about compensation and the best they had was "you can move out". Are you kidding me? To find out that the room I am currently staying in was "unliveable" at the time of move in, but they still moved us in is crazy! I do expect something to be done about this living situation for current residents as well as future ones!
My emails are never replied to. We are supposed to leave "24 hours after our final exams for the suites to be clean". My suite was not completely clean before I got here and the promises of it been clean never came through. You should have a look at our amazing ceiling which leaks occasionally and nothing is done every time it is reported.

We were the first suite to find mice living in the vents in the middle of first quarter. When pest control showed up they said there were no signs of mice and left. They didn't even take the lid off of the AC unit the mice were reported living in. They left in under two minutes. Also there are constantly water bugs on the floors of our bathroom.
