In the first term of living in East Slope Residences, the majority of students, particularly in Camber, have complained that the housing is not in a fit condition for students to live in. This stems from lack of heating (which breaks sometimes multiple times a week), no hot water (which lasted almost a month in October), and wifi that cuts out every few hours (which students desperately need to study). Despite many residents calling and emailing the East Slope Team, there has been little to no action, and sometimes the best they can offer is an apology. Considering East Slope residents pay upwards of £159 a week and do not have access to heating, hot water or wifi, it is unfair that we are expected to have paid for these non-existent utilities. Park Village, for example, possess all basic utilities and only pay £91 per week. It is unfair to be living with partial heating, partial hot water, and weak wifi. Many students have complained of illness in their first term due to having cold showers, or having to sleep without heating. This is unacceptable, and it is affecting our health and wellbeing.
This petition is for those who want their voice heard. We demand compensation for the lack of care or action that East Slope has provided. Once signed, this petition will be sent to the managers of East Slope for their consideration.

Seeing so many of you share your stories about waking up in the freezing cold has turned my frustration into fuel for this fight. I never imagined this many people would relate to the misery of a cold shower in the middle of a study session. We are finally proving that our living conditions are a failure that requires real accountability.

I have severe fears of germs, and need to take showers for my health. Not having hot water has put me in extremely uncomfortable situations. I'm paying enough for this, we should have stable hot water.
The lack of heating and hot water is actually turning into a joke at this point. An apology isn’t what we need when it’s given for the 50th time, just give us some money back.
Really disappointing that we are paying some of the highest rents on campus and even though problems claimed to be fixed, they keep happening. Can you in imagine how cold we are with no heating in the flats??
We've been given cleaning warnings because of our dishes piling up because we couldn't wash them. I haven't been able to watch some of my lectures while sick. I've also been completely ignored in emails.
I wasn’t able to do my washing up in a sanitary way because of a lack of hot water. One of our freezers doesn’t work and hasn’t since literally Freshers Week. We’ve called reception and gone to reception multiple times about this. Our WiFi also regularly cuts out and some of us have had to have cold showers because of the lack of hot water

I am appalled at the lack of appropriate technical and operational support these students are having to endure. Many of whom are new to dealing effectively with poor service, meanwhile paying extortionate amounts for accommodation. You should be ashamed, and I expect nothing short of a handsome compensation settlement.
