Dear SCPD Cope Unit,
We the parents and community members of the Northport / East-Northport School District request increased traffic enforcement in our community's school zones, during school hours.
In a Facebook group entitled "Northport / East-Northport Mom's Group", several members have exchanged first-person accounts of aggressive driving in school zones, ranging from egregious speeding, to unsafe passing into oncoming traffic, over the double-yellow line. These events have taken place during the week of 10/29/18, during school hours.
We understand that SCPD has limited resources and many responsibilities and we appreciate any efforts the department can make; our request is motivated out of concern for the safety of our children, and the fear there will be another accident like the pedestrian who was hit back in September. We would be grateful for any form of enforcement, including officers, speed-signs, even a parked police car. We would welcome anything that would make motorists slow down.

The stories shared by neighbors about close calls near our schools keep me awake at night. I am still pushing for a direct meeting with the department because the current traffic conditions are simply not sustainable.

Seeing the momentum behind this request is heavy because it confirms how many of us are constantly looking over our shoulders in these zones. It is exhausting to feel ignored but watching this grow tells me we are not shouting into a vacuum.

Seen way to much aggressive driving near the elementary school lately. My heart drops every time I see it happen.
Enough is enough. These people think the speed limit is just a suggestion.
Need more patrols. Simple as that.
PLEASE put a cruiser there. Even just sitting there would make people actually slow down.
I see people flying down main st every single morning. Someone is going to get killed. Please do something before it is to late.

Total insanity out there. I almost got hit walking my son to the bus stop yesterday. Totally unacceptable.
