We, the undersigned individuals, would like to express our support for the strict enforcement of school zones to protect our children. Whilst the current government may decide what method is best for enforcement this petition contains some relatively low cost initiatives.

1. Patrols: Placement of a School Crosswalk Patrol System for all government schools. We would like for the Cayman Islands Government to set aside some to the government surplus to hire school crossing patrol officers to monitor and and ensure the safety of children during the peak opening/closing hours of schools. We have a grave concern that our primary school children are at risk of serious harm IF this matter is not addressed promptly.

We, the undersigned individuals, also request that the RCIPS station officers at these key locations as a matter of priority on a regular basis to issue speeding fines and decrease traffic speeds by their presence. Many drivers have been observed ignored the school zone speed limits.

2. Stricter Financial Penalties: We also request legislative changes from the PPM government that any person caught speeding whilst the speed reduction sign is blinding incur fines at DOUBLE the usual rate.

3. Speed Cameras: We also support the use of technology such as the installment of traffic enforcement cameras.

This school crosswalk is absolutely a safety issue for the children. The traffic law must be enforced.

This was brought to my attention today by a concerned parent. Please don't allow people to continue to ignore traffic laws and jeopardize the lives of our precious children!

Let's try to at least be a bit more proactive as it pertains to the safety of our children.
