OPEN PETITION TO MAYOR COOPER AND MEMBERS OF COLLINGWOOD COUNCIL
“70% OF COLLINGWOOD RESIDENTS DON’T WANT WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO FORCE ON US”
We the undersigned, and especially the voting citizens of Collingwood, are outraged at the total lack of regard that you have shown this community by voting to cover over the old Centennial Pool (with no thought to the disabled, young families and the elderly) and coming up with other short sighted solutions. A community poll has shown that 7 out of 10 residents support the one community centre concept. You have failed to consult the public who put you in office which remains completely unacceptable. You are not demonstrating the open and transparent local government you promised when you were elected. We deserve much better than that. You pushed this through Council and 8 of you seemed pleased about your decision and acted oblivious to reality; you know the residents want a recreation community centre in one location. You have totally misread the strong wishes of this community.
To add insult to injury you voted to sole source the contract to one supplier with unacceptable and false rationale (there are many more than one vendor which is the unfounded reason you used). Other levels of government cannot sole source for any sum greater than $25,000 and our limit is as per the approved procurement policy is $50,000, not 12 million dollars. This is not right and you know it. DO NOT SIGN ANY CONTRACT WITH THE VENDOR!
We demand that you rescind the vote and treat us this town and the residents with the respect that we deserve. Start being accountable to the residents who elected you! We would like an opportunity to express our displeasure at the next Council meeting. It is not too late to restore our faith in you but frankly, we are losing our patience with this blatant lack of accountability.

I am currently drafting a formal letter to Council that challenges the procurement rationale used for the sole source contract. Legal counsel has been engaged to review the municipal bidding process for any procedural violations.

The lack of transparency is embarrassing. Mayor Cooper needs to start answering some real questions instead of hiding behind closed doors.
Seriously? Another project nobody asked for. Keep the pool open.
My kids need a place to swim. Why is this so hard to figure out? Listen to us for once!!!
Stop ignoring the people who actually live here. We have been asking for a pool for years and you guys just do whatever you want anyway.
So frustrated with this council. They never listen to the community. Just a bunch of short sighted choices.
