Recently Collingwood Council made a long awaited decision on the future of recreational facilties in the town of Collingwood. Council deserves to be congratulated on the decision to actually move forward on this project to provide facilities that were identified a priorities for residents of Collingwood. A much needed second ice surface and a proper pool will finally be built that Collingwood residents deserve. All would agree that an actual "bricks and mortar" structure would be great but in the end can we afford it? The town has other needs as well, road improvements, infrastructure improvements, affordable housing etc. The solution that Collingwood council approved is a viable option and is not a just a cover or bubble, it is a proven option many communities have used to improve their recreational facilties at a lower COST for FIRST RATE facilities. The new rink and pool will provide for all members of the community not just minor hockey and competitive swimmers. Many users have been displaced because of the lack of facilities.
