We, the undersigned, have had the privilege of playing for and being a student of Coach Robert Pomponio during our time at Chaminade High School. In addition to former students and players this list includes the parents of Alumni.
Coach Pomps taught us the skill set necessary to succeed in this ever challenging world. He taught us how to persevere, take on adversity, and rise to the challenge. Life is often about “answering the bell”, Coach Pomps taught us to meet the challenge head on, work through challenges, and be successful. When we talk about our Chaminade experience invariably the conversation includes Coach Pomponio and the many lessons we learned from him.
We borrow the words Brian Dennehy used to describe his feelings for Coach Joe Thomas. These same words can be used to express our feelings for Coach Pomponio. “I can’t think of another man whose impact was more powerful in my life. The essential purpose of the man, his rock-solid character, his profound faith, his love for and dedication to the young men he worked with, his enthusiasm for football (and lacrosse) – for all sports – and for life in general made him a great teacher and an extraordinary example of how life should be lived.”
For us, it is difficult to fathom a Chaminade High School without Coach Pomponio running a team. Quite simply, the Chaminade experience just wouldn’t be the same. Our students would be missing out, robbed of an opportunity. We, the undersigned, want to see Coach Robert Pomponio reinstated immediately.
And to you Coach Pomps, thanks for the lessons you taught me. You are a big reason why I am a better man, husband, father, son, brother, friend, employee, etc. I can’t thank you enough.

The administration at Chaminade is silent but this wave of support proves they cannot ignore us forever. We are building the momentum needed to force a meeting and demand they keep Coach Pomponio where he belongs.

Coach Pomps. Coached my son only for a year, but we could see what everyone is saying. Pomps is a great coach and human being. I am saddened and frustrated that this has happened to him. It is unjust.
In todays world a coach/teacher/mentor who cares as much and has as much passion as Coach Pomponio should be lauded. Not just there to collect a paycheck, but actually trying to teach boys how to be men and take some responsibilty for their actions should be the norm, not the exception. Do the boys a favor and re-instate Coach Pomponio so he can continue the excellent work he has been doing for decades.
Coach Pomps was not only a great coach in terms of Athletics. He was a great coach in terms of raising The Chaminade Man. He knew how to get the best out of us on the field and off.
While at Chaminade I was disciplined not unlike how my parents would discipline me and it was well deserved. This to me is ridiculous!!! POMPS was the most compassionate coach I have ever had! A man that I wished to be when I started coaching!
One of the best coaches I've ever had. The way he coached taught me about the real world and real life. No textbook in the world was better than that.

John Loonam. Class of 1986. Sounds like an overeaction on the part of the administration. My feeling is Chaminade does not practice what it preaches. Even if Mister Pomponio made a mistake, which it does not appear he actually did, the fact that this severe disciplinary action has been taken without any chance for redemption, especially after being a part of the "Chaminade Family" for so long, flies in the face of forgiveness; which is one of the tenets Chaminade taught. My recent experience with this School, along with this situation with Mister Pomponio, has me reconsidering my positive image of this institution.
