Support the new Cecil Township Sports Park
The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors has secured grant monies to purchase a parcel of land north of the Southpointe business park for the expressed purpose of building a new township park.
The centerpiece of this park will be three soccer fields. These fields are urgently needed due to the increased growth and participation in the Canon Mac Youth Soccer Association. The association currently has over 900 register players, which represents approximately 20% of the current students in the Canon Mac School disctrict. In addition, the fields would be used by the CM High School varsity programs as well.
The following items outline the goals of this project:
-
Approximately $500,000 has been raised from the PA State Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources, the County Share Program (gaming monies) and from corporate donations. This money is earmarked for this project - if the project does not proceed, then these funds will be forfeited.
-
NO ADDITIONAL DEBT WILL BE TAKEN ON BY CECIL TOWNSHIP TO FUND THIS PARK.
-
NO TAXPAYER MONEY WILL BE USED FOR THIS PARK!!!
-
A developer that owns an adjacent land parcel will develop the access road for this park.
-
The Montour Trail plans on tying into this park, providing trail access to Southpointe.
A petition to defeat this park is currently circulating through Cecil Township. The sponser of that petition is using scare tactics and misinformation to gain support to defeat this project. Please lend your support so that we can build a top tier facility for our children to continue to develop their skills and love for the game of soccer.
