As a citizen of Prince William County who is concerned with the importance of providing public parks with adequate athletic fields for our children, I urge the Prince William Board of County Supervisors to fully fund the completion of Catharpin Park.
The funding for Catharpin Park was initially included in the FY 2013 budget, but was stripped from the budget at the last minute because of some political infighting on the Board of Supervisors. These political battles unfairly punish the children who need to have Catharpin Park available for use.
The defunding of Catharpin Park creates a huge and unacceptable gap in the availability of playing fields that youth sports activities require in the western end of Prince William County. This critical lack of fields has forced sports organizations to literally turn away hundreds of children who want to participate, but cannot because of the shortage of playing fields.
The time has come for the Board of County Supervisors to stop the politics at the door -- and fully fund Catharpin Park as a part of the carry-over budget process in August.
We strongly urge your swift action to expedite the completion of Catharpin Park.
I affix my signature to this petition to join other families in asking the Board of County Supervisors to keep the promises made to us when our communities were initially approved for development by the Board.

I just blinked and the number hit one thousand which is completely wild considering how long we were stuck at double digits. Seeing so many people actually care about these fields makes me feel like maybe we can actually force the board to stop ignoring us for once.

I really never expected this to grow this fast but hearing from all these families who keep getting turned away from sports programs because there are no fields is honestly heartbreaking. Someone from the county office reached out to ask for more info about why we are so frustrated which feels like a tiny opening at least even if I am still waiting for them to actually commit to anything concrete.

We are getting so near to that one hundred mark and honestly seeing the count climb is wild but we really have to keep this momentum going right now. If you have a second please just grab that link and shoot it over to some neighbors because if we hit that milestone before the board meeting it might actually make them look up from their phones.

Fix this. Hundreds of kids are sitting at home instead of playing sports and it is pathetic.
The western end of the county is always forgotten. We need these fields for the kids to stay active. Disappointed in the supervisors.
