BCSS Families,
Our names are Kristen, Katie, Jennifer and Ashley. We are Buford parents and volunteer Buford youth sports coaches. We love the kids of this community and pray daily for their happiness, health and safety.
The events on September 4, 2024 at Apalachee High School, Robb Elementary on May 24, 2022, Parkland High on February 14, 2018 and so many others are heartbreaking and horrifying.
This should not happen anywhere, ever again.
We REFUSE to sit by and not try our damn hardest to make an impact for our children.
So, what can we do, even if just in our small community? We can ask for metal detectors. We can demand it.
Is it perfect, no. But is it something, yes. It's another deterrent, it's another catch to stop a weapon before it makes its way inside to our precious babies.
We are no experts but we will engage experts for quotes and work with the school if there's enough support. Metal detectors for schools seem to run about $4,000 each. If each building has two main entrances, 5 buildings, this is $40,000 in costs of detectors. Considering labor and maintenance/support, let's say we need $500,000 to get this implemented. We will firm up these numbers by getting details from security companies.
We raise so much money in this community. We are building a $60 million stadium for the kids. Surely we can make this relatively small change that could have a huge, life saving impact.

We are currently gathering quotes from regional security firms to finalize the projected budget for equipment and personnel. Once these figures are verified we will formally submit the proposal to the district board for review.

The current volume of support has provided the necessary leverage to request a formal meeting with the school board. We are now preparing a comprehensive briefing packet that includes procurement quotes from two security firms for the board to review.

If we have metal detectors in court houses for armed police officers and guards inside, we should have them for innocent children and teachers. Completely for this
Having two children and nieces and nephews attending bcss id love to see this happen. A little more peace of mind is better for everyone. I’ve been looking at bulletproof inserts for my children’s book bags to feel a little better but I’m not even sure they’re allowed especially with the clear bag policy in effect
I'm in the city limits but my daughter goes to GCA because of the lack of safety in your schools.
My granddaughters are students at Buford. I would love peace of mind for safety for all the students. Let’s do this in remembrance of the lives lost at Apalachee High School.
It is important to prioritize allocating funds to equip our schools with any equipment necessary that will aid in the protection of our children. We are well known for our sports and education because there are plenty of funds invested here. We should be well known for prioritizing the safety of our children as well.
Keep our kids safe, please put these in place.
Anything for our kids’ safety!

as a newly expecting mother, seeing the amount of devastation across our nations schools terrifies me for my daughters future, i’d rather she have to walk through a metal detector each day than to never walk back through our front door from school.
