The reaction of the following change has left many students very outraged & upset. This policy will allow students to see valuable electronics, money, & private necessities in which can be seen from their clear book bags. This new rule will invade a breach of personal privacy (such as medication, feminine hygiene products, etc.)& a dramatic increase of robbery within the school. Many parents have also found this rule ridiculous & are taking this as a joke.

I have been hearing from so many frustrated students who feel their personal safety is being ignored with this new policy. I am currently gathering these accounts to present directly to the administration because they need to understand why this feels like a violation of our basic privacy.

Seeing this much momentum confirms that I am not the only one worried about the safety and privacy of our students. It feels incredible to know so many of you are fighting alongside me to get the administration to reconsider this policy.

I honestly don't understand the reasoning behind this. Like I understand that they do this for safety reasons so that they can see things the students items to ensure that none of them are carrying weapons of any sort. But at what cost? Is it really worth this sort of personal invasion of privacy for this one little rule that may not even be that effective? I mean if a kid wanted to hide a weapon they will find a way to do it, they can just hide it somewhere else instead of their book bags. This is an extreme invasion of privacy that would make many students feel uncomfortable, I think people should stand up to this sort of thing, because it is just plain wrong. If there is chance I am willing to speak to whoever is responsible for this to try and change their mind.
CLEAR BAGS ARE A TERRIBLE IDEA. All this is gonna do is make it easier for people to steal our phones and tablets because they can see exactly what we have.
This is rediculous. Why do they think my personal stuff is everyone elses business? I dont want my pads and meds on display for the whole hallway to see.
Seems like a waste of money for something that wont even stop anyone from doing anything bad.
I think I will just carry all my stuff instead of buying a clear bookbag because I don't have time to buy a new bookbag and im too poor.
On December 11, 1965, a student from Iowa, Christopher Eckhardt planned a meeting with peers to protest the Vietnam War at his home. It was decided that they would wear black armbands to school, in remembrance and expression of the conflicts abroad. On December 14, 1965 the school districts forced the students to remove them completely, threatening to suspend those who kept wearing them. Two days later Mary Beth Tinker, a student at Warren Harding Junior High, was singled out and suspended. Parents raged and in turn attended a school board meeting where the case was taken to the Supreme court. The supreme court voted that by suspending students for wearing black armbands the school district was violating the 1st amendment. The Supreme Court’s decision in Tinker is said to have set the legal standard for student free expression for many years. A prohibition against expression of opinion, without any evidence that the rule is necessary to avoid substantial interference with school discipline or the rights of others, is not permissible under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. My point is.. Something triggered this decision. Public schools have also won other court cases that suggest the opposite, in some regards. When you enter a school, you lose a lot of your rights- the 2nd amendment no longer applies, freedom of the press is often restricted... It's an immoral trade.

So now, our parents will have to go out to buy new book bags. What a great investment this should be!
