If you do not want Long Hill Township to spend $10 Million Dollars + on an outdated proposal from the Army Corp of Engineer's, please sign this petition. Long Hill's cost initially will be $875,000 + any over runs or additional cost of maintaining, repairing and operating this levee. These costs are unknown. The ACOE's stated this Wall may only work 60% of the time and only help a portion of the residents. We've researched and contacted Ella Filippone, Director of the Passaic River Coalition. She's devoted most of her life studying the Passaic River, tributaries, streams, etc. and she strongly feels that this Wall will not help our town's flooding problem, in fact it will make it worst! The Sierra Club, an environmental group has expressed concern over the asbestos, arsenic and mercury found in the bore hole samples from the area where this wall will be constructed. Our ball fields will suffer greatly because the Wall will stop behind Shoprite and flood water will flow with more intensity around the wall and down Poplar. We have no idea what the "Real" cost will be for this project or what this will cost us as taxpayer's. Please sign this petition if you are against the proposed flood wall in Long Hill Township.

Updates

November 5, 2011

The feedback from local residents regarding the environmental hazards of this project continues to be alarming. I am currently compiling the research provided by the Passaic River Coalition to present at the next town council meeting. Your concerns are being documented and will be brought to the attention of our officials.

November 5, 2011

The momentum behind this petition highlights a collective demand for fiscal responsibility and environmental caution in Long Hill Township. This growing consensus confirms that residents require a more transparent and effective solution than the current proposal. We are now preparing to present these concerns to the township officials with the full weight of this community behind us.

I really dont want my property taxes going up for a project that experts say is just gonna make flooding worse on our street.

10 million is absurd. My taxes are already high enough without throwing money at a wall that doesnt even work half the time.

If it only works 60% of the time that is a total joke. We need better answers for long hill not just throwing money down the drain.

Stop wasting our tax dollars on a proven failure. Listen to the experts and find a real solution instead of this wall mess.

The asbestos part is really scary. Why are we even considering building on that soil near where our kids play sports? Seriously bad idea.
