Clean up TAFY, or close the doors!

TAFY stands for "The Answer For Youth." It is quickly becoming a public nuisance. It's located in a residential area and within walking distance to a large playground frequented by children and families. TAFY has no limits on age. Its intention of helping less fortunate youth has become much like the Salvation Army; helping any person of any age. Vulnerable youth are being mixed with a much older crowd. It's become a "hot spot" for drug dealing. The crowds loitering outside of the building are loud and vulgar. They are seen passing items... which if they are followed to nearby areas (such as the nearby playground) they are seen using illegal drugs, then returning back to TAFY. The lack of rules and growing concern from Port Angeles residents trumps the very reason this organization is there. At this time, as a Port Angeles resident, I want TAFY to be closed to the public.

I believe that this program was started with the best of intentions but has gotten out of hand. If it truly is a program to help the youth, then the older criminal element needs to be weeded out and kept away. I have a deep concern for kids who need help, having to mingle with drug dealers and others who should not be there.

I live at the other end of this block. It's such a magnet for negative people. I've been catching mail theives. My truck has been robbed, gas has been siphoned a few times. Syringes littered in the front of my home.... =(

I have seen the drug transaction on Tafy grounds . I'm all for helping our youth as I have 2 teens myself . But the adults there is effecting our teens that use this . How can a youth stay clean n sober if the druggies are putting it in their face ??!!! Close the doors !!

This program is not helping the youth in the community, it is a hook up for drug addicts to meet other drug addicts as well as catering to known criminals. How does it "help" troubled youth to be exposed to this environment? It doesn't, it just creates more drug addicts and criminals. If it doesn't work, it needs to go!

Let's get TAFY back to being a place where at-risk youth have a safe place to go and let the Salvation Army help the adults. A separation between youth and adults is an absolute must!

http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/article/20150514/NEWS/305149995 This is just one instance of a sexual predator picking up victims at TAFY. The man in the article has returned to use TAFY's services many times since this incident, even though he is over the age limit!!

TAFY was there for me when I was lost and still searching in Port Angeles. To shut it down would be wrongful. . The family's that go their have made a family and to separate them would break their household. Don't separate them. Family's are built to survive. .. I met Susan and Norma years ago when I was growing up in the 90's...that was my teenage years. Hot dogs on the pier..music. .friends..so much laughter. Take care of each other...you'll be fine..one thing to

Another comment from the PA group: TAFY was started with a youth mission; it received approval from the city with a youth mission; it received funding and donations with a *youth mission*; and the people shown on the petition are clearly not "youth". Youth is not 35... or 34... or 33 years old. That is middle aged! The pictures show middle aged clients of TAFY, so what? There are so many adult programs in town that other cities are shipping their problems here, so I don't know what you mean about where they'll go... there are many other adult programs..,,one about four blocks down the street.
