The bus stop for Lothian Wood is at the end of the neighborhood on a very busy main road (Route 408). The speed limit in the neighborhood is 30 and cars fly in and out of the neighborhood right where the children wait for the bus. There have been multiple instances of cars traveling on Route 408 passing each other right in front of the bus stop. There will be an influx of preschoolers and kindergarteners starting in the next few years which makes this bus stop location very dangerous. We are requesting for the bus stop to be moved to the intersection of Teton and Cottonwood or to the culdesac at the end of Cottonwood or even at either culdesac at the ends of Teton. It has been proven that large trucks such as trash trucks, busses, RVs etc can swing around without backing up at the culdesac at the end of Cottonwood which would make this the safest location for a neighborhood bus stop. In total there will be 12 children entering Lothian Elementary in the next few years as preschoolers or kindergarteners. Many of these children attend the licensed daycare Homegrown Hope located in the neighborhood. This means that many of these children will need to be driven to the current bus stop and looked after on a very busy road by one adult. This is a real safety concern and as you will see from the signatures the neighbors are in favor. There have been times where neighbors without small children have had trouble entering the neighborhood with the vehicles lined up waiting for the bus.
