Branson Intermediate dress code policy is outdated and discriminatory. Currently the policy is shorts must be as long as a child’s fingertips. As children come in all shapes and sizes, this rule allows for many different acceptable lengths of shorts, leaving what’s unacceptable to be based off of a students body shape. This is body shaming and discriminatory. Particularly against taller children. The Branson administration has admitted this rule does tend to make it harder for taller girls to comply with without making additional accommodations or not allowing them to dress is the same trendy fashion as other girls. They have also admitted that many mothers of taller children have complained and brought this to their attention and yet the rule still applies. This is unacceptable. We petition to have the rule changed to a standard length of measure that makes its acceptable across the board for all children instead of using body shapes to determine what is acceptable.
