All those who sign this petition respectfully request that Army JROTC remain a mandatory class for freshmen and sophomore students at Central Catholic High School for the 2014-15 school year. We believe the program is a valuable asset to Central Catholic, ingrained in it's tradition, and embodies the school's values and mission. No other program offered at Central Catholic rivals the skills and attributes learned through JROTC, and taking away the tradition of mandatory JROTC (making it optional for all students), deprives freshmen and sophomore students the life long benefits of the program.

The school administration keeps ignoring the tradition that defines this institution but this surge of support proves they cannot sweep us under the rug much longer. Their attempt to gut the JROTC curriculum is a betrayal of everything this school stands for and we are ready to keep fighting until they drop this ridiculous plan.

The JROTC program inspired me to try my best at everything I do. It taught me valuable lessons such as teamwork and attention to detail during class. If this great program is made optional, many students may not reach their full potential and will miss these valuable skills and experiences.
My son went through this and HE thinks it is a very, very important aspect of Central Catholic education. He is not a 'military type', but this is near and dear to his heart. He grew so much as an individual and young man through JROTC. KEEP IT!!
JROTC at Central Catholic, whether the students know it or not, teaches things that can be applied to everyday life. A little maturity, discipline, and attention to detail go a long way in the world after high school. My JROTC helped shape me into the man I am today, and it needs to remain a part of the Central Catholic Advantage.
JROTC at Central Catholic has been a tradition, it is an experience of Central Catholic that separates us from other private schools. Are we really losing so many students that we need to compromise what it means to be a Central student, and later on a Central graduate?
I cant say it was fun or interesting, but it teaches good values, it looks good on a transcript, and it can promote a self-discipline that influences the man you become in life.
Although, JROTC is now optional, continues to be a mistake.

I have seen what JROTC had done for my grandsons who have attended (4), two are graduating this school year. They learn discipline, team spirit, leadership and patriotism. There is no other class that is taught in Central Catholic that combines all these life lessons. I highly recommend that you keep it as a mandaatory class for freshman and sophomore students.
