When you enter Camp OhDaKoTa the first view you have from the parking lot is Staplekamp Field. If the field is not maintained, groomed or mowed it will not be visually appealing to those who visit or utilize camp. Staplekamp Field is utilized for camping by Units, Districts and our Council, other Councils, as well as out of Council groups. The field is used for sports, summer camp program, klondike activities, District events, OA functions and a multitude of other uses.
It is a huge concern that if the field is not mowed, it will attract unwanted pests, ticks, fleas, mosiquitos and unwaranted rodents. Tall grass is a breeding ground for bugs and snakes.
Tall grass poses a whole litany of problems, not only relating to the health of the field and infacive species, but also in regards to safety. If the field is mowed only on occasion when the grass is overly high, it is easy to miss objects and debris that the mower can inadvertently run over damaging equipment.
For these reasons, we petition that Staplekamp Field at Camp OhDaKoTa is maintained for the use of Program for Scouts rather than being turned into unusable prairie land.

The increase in support has brought this issue to the attention of the council board members. I am currently coordinating a meeting with the facilities committee to discuss the maintenance schedule for Staplekamp Field.

This has been a staple to what makes a camp a great place to create memories. I have camped, played flag football, capture the flag, and lots of other games that became great memories of my Scouting Experience. I would hate to see that go away from what makes camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta a real Scouting experience.
Staplecamp area is better used for a program area. There are better areas to make in to a prairie area. During all the years that I have volunteered at Camp Oh-da-Kota,, we have ran many games, programs, tent camping area in that big area. Please continue to maintain that area!!
Please keep the field mowed. We use it when we bring our Troops to camp at Oh-da-ko-da. We set up telescopes. We play capture the flag. We play flag football and soccer. We practice compass skills.
Staplekamp field has been one of the highlights at camp ODKA for both the Pack and Troop I work with as well as my own children. The loss of maintenance of this area would limit some of amazing program the camp can offer.
I’m an active scout leader and an Eagle Scout. I’ve always loved camp OhDaToKa for years and now my boys are getting to enjoy it. Staple Camp field play a huge role in that.
Keep the field mowed. It is a priceless part of OH-DA-KO-TA. I have good memories of many Scout activities centering around Staplecamp Field. It seems again that the Milwaukee part of the Council has no reguard for any thing not invented by Milwaukee. If the camp is allowed to become run down , how long before they decide to liquidate it.
Let's maintain the integrity of our scouting lands. They are intended to be used for scouting activities, year round.
