Last year flooding destroyed homes and recreational areas all over Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Cane Patch Campground was one of those areas. Cane Patch Campground and Phillips Creek Day Use Area, both located on the North Fork of Pound Lake, are two of Pound's only recreation areas. Both of these areas are managed by the US Forest Service. Since the flooding, the Forest Service has elected to not open Cane Patch Campground this year and possibly never again. Over the last several decades these areas have not been as heavily maintained as they were in the past, both monetarily and in regard to maintenance. We need to let the Forest Service and local State and Federal Representatives know that the citizens in Pound and Southwest Virginia care about these areas and will not let them be forgotten. These areas need more money and more attention to restoration and management. Many residents are willing to help clean up these areas initially and keep them cleaned up. By signing this petition, you will be helping to keep our area alive and letting your voice be heard!

The Forest Service thinks we will just go away quietly while they abandon Cane Patch but we are about to hit 500 signatures to prove them wrong. This is the moment to get the link in front of everyone you know before we force them to address the rot they have left to fester.

The Forest Service thinks they can just abandon our land and hope we disappear. This surge of support proves they are dead wrong and shows we are ready to fight for every inch of Cane Patch.

One hundred people have signed on to demand the Forest Service stop neglecting our community lands. The bureaucrats in charge are banking on us giving up to let Cane Patch rot away. They clearly have no idea how hard we are willing to fight to get our recreation areas back.

Many people, including my family, were forced to give up their homes for these areas to be formed. If the Forest Service does not want to maintain these areas, volunteers can do the job. We live in and care for these areas and should be allowed to keep them from growing up.

The Clinch Coalition is attempting to form a partnership with the USFS that would provide more robust and regular maintenance of trails and recreation areas. This along with the willingness of local residents can provide stewardship of the areas in this petition.

I was a campground host for 3 yrs and I had to fight just to get the grass mowed. They would have more campers if they improved it with electrical and water hookups. This area is flat and no upgrade mountains to climb

My children love cain patch and have spent many summers here. It has so much potential if they would fix the septic and put a play ground back. I would help anyway I could to keep this camp ground open and alive for my kids and many other who enjoy being outdoors and not on electronics.

I would be willing to donate time to help keep these places clean! My husband and I frequent these spots often and always clean up trash and do what we can but we’d be willing to do more if we knew what was needed.

USFS has a responsibility to the public to maintain its recreational spaces. It’s especially important to do so now, at the moment that SWVA is starting to attract more cultural and rec tourism. Clean up Cane Patch!
