Keep the field mowed. It is a priceless part of OH-DA-KO-TA. I have good memories of many Scout activities centering around Staplecamp Field. It seems again that the Milwaukee part of the Council has no reguard for any thing not invented by Milwaukee. If the camp is allowed to become run down , how long before they decide to liquidate it.

Staplekamp field offers great memories such as camp-wide capture the flag, the home for scoutreach day camp, the central hub for our OA work weekends and more specifically, our fall conclave.

Let's maintain the integrity of our scouting lands. They are intended to be used for scouting activities, year round.

This has been a staple to what makes a camp a great place to create memories. I have camped, played flag football, capture the flag, and lots of other games that became great memories of my Scouting Experience. I would hate to see that go away from what makes camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta a real Scouting experience.

As a Cub Scout leader and active scout parent, I have a very big problem with this field not being mowed! As addressed by many others, it will be an eye sore as you enter the camp. Along with how will scouts use Fort Dakota anymore? This will bring added bugs, etc into the Gaga ball area along with the cabin that scouts sleep in. My scouts and pack use this field every day that we are at camp. You can use this field as well to walk through to get to the dining hall along with down to the lake front. This field is use for the haunted hayride as well, which is another district event that brings money into scouting. During summer camp if the shooting ranges are shut down due to flooding, which did happened a few years back, then this field is use to keep program open and the ranges can be safely moved to this area. I have also seen this field filled with tents during Camporee’s. Where would all those additional scout pitched their tents if the field was not mowed? I believe you will have many unhappy leaders, packs, troops, families and scouts if you choose to not mow this field! MOW the Field!

Staplecamp area is better used for a program area. There are better areas to make in to a prairie area. During all the years that I have volunteered at Camp Oh-da-Kota,, we have ran many games, programs, tent camping area in that big area. Please continue to maintain that area!!

Please keep the field mowed. We use it when we bring our Troops to camp at Oh-da-ko-da. We set up telescopes. We play capture the flag. We play flag football and soccer. We practice compass skills.

Seriously? Isn't there a park ranger? If it's too much work for one ranger then hire someone. Or better yet where are all the volunteers. It would also be a good learning experience for the scouts.

Staplekamp field has been one of the highlights at camp ODKA for both the Pack and Troop I work with as well as my own children. The loss of maintenance of this area would limit some of amazing program the camp can offer.

That field was one of the highlights for me from the camp. NYLT and games of capture the flag were great times. It should remain usable

As Summer Camp Director, I can tell you we use Staplecamp Field the entire time we are running summer camp at ODKT. The field is used for campwide games and activities, tent camping, for the shooting sports special days, and just to get water from the wells. During open program the fort and gaga pit are used and the chapel is used for scouts own service. Why would you hinder use of these things by not mowing? We are starting to increase camp attendance and want families to continue to come to camp. If we don't mow, families will not want to come to camp and we will loose more money. There will also be more bugs and critters. If you don't believe me just take a walk through the back side of camp! We already get enough complaints about bugs from the parents. We certainly don't want to increase those complaints. The grass needs to be kept short to keep the bugs and critters at bay. As a Cub Master and a Troop Committee Member, I can assure you that Staplecamp Field is also used in the off season for family camping, troop activities, and scouting events. Again, these groups also bring in money to the council by having and attending events at ODKT. They will not attend if they have to trek through long grass that will be infested with mosquitoes, ticks, snakes and mice (amongst other things)! It is also an eyesore to see an unkempt camp. Why would anyone want to attend? You must continue to mow! It is critical for people to continue to come to camp!
