Cambridge City's central taxi rank in St Andrews Street is to be scrapped as part of an expansion and reorganisation of bus routes.

This was reported in the Cambridge News on 23 March 2012 with a follow up on 1 May 2012.

There are many people who either prefer to use taxis, or indeed must use them due to their state of health. To this end the local authorities provide taxi vouchers to help people who cannot board a bus or get to the bus stops. More buses in the centre will arguably help bus users, but will hinder pedestrians, people wanting to get a taxi, and passengers needing a taxi to set them down close to the shops.

This petition calls for support against the closure of the St Andrews Street taxi rank, and plans to prevent access by taxis to the town centre at all. This is not for the convenience of the drivers (it would be easier not to have to struggle through the central streets), but for those who want to use our services easily and conveniently.

Please sign our petition:

NO to the abolition of the St Andrews Street taxi rank.
NO to the closure of St Andrews Street to all vehicles except buses.
