Help keep Bishops Stortford train station's taxi rank fairly priced and our taxi drivers independent!
For over 20 years the taxi rank at Bishop's Stortford station has been successfully operated by a mixture of independent and company taxis. National Express now propose to hand the entire operation over to one company; Omega Taxis.
We are petitioning against this change because Omega have announced that the cost to drivers of a permit to work from the station rank will increase dramatically from £600 per year to nearly £6000.
A convoy of taxi drivers will travel to the Houses Of Parliament to deliver this petition to Mark Prisk MP on 23rd March 2011.Please sign our petition and support these local, ordinary men and women in their right to earn a living.

I have spent this week speaking with drivers who are terrified that this massive permit hike will force them out of their own cars. The silence from the people in charge is deafening but we are preparing to put these names directly into the hands of those who hold the power to stop this.

Seeing this level of support for my colleagues hits home because I know exactly how hard these drivers work to put food on their tables. We are clearly not alone in this fight to keep our station rank independent and fair.

Bishops stortford isnt london prices. 6k is a joke. Leave them alone
The taxi drivers at the station are always so helpful with my bags when i get off the train. Why fix what isnt broken???
This will honestly just make fares go up for everyone else. Bad idea for the town.
Ridiculous price hike. Let the local guys work. Don't let a big company just take over everything.
My dad has worked that rank for years. Omega is just greedy. They are going to put honest people out of work.
