ATTENTION ALL BUSINESS OWNERS AND CONTRACTORS WHO WORK IN AND AROUND OLIVE (SHOKAN, BOICEVILLE, WEST SHOKAN, OLIVEBRIDGE) -- IF YOUR BUSINESS IS SUPPORTED BY TOURISM or SHORT TERM RENTAL ECONOMY, PLEASE BE AWARE OF NEW REGULATIONS BEING PROPOSED BY THE TOWN OF OLIVE WHICH WILL DECIMATE YOUR BUSINESS BY UP TO 50%. This petition should be signed by ANYONE who is or may be affected by the town of Olive regulations on Short Term Rentals. Based on the proposed law, which has not gone into effect, we are very concerned about the severe and unquestionable economic impact that regulating short term rentals will have on the town of Olive's laborers and residents. We believe that up to 50% of the revenue earned by small businesses and local contractors and laborers will be eliminated with the proposed regulation from the town of Olive. Any person or business who depends on tourism, from small business owners, restaurants, cafes, shops, etc will be hit hard. The town of Olive's regulations are onerous, do not actually solve the issues they state are in play, and are only going to hurt an already economically challenged community. We are in full support of locals to earn and maintain an above average standard of living, work opportunities, and to keep their small businesses alive through a less onerous regulation on short term rentals. PLEASE FORWARD TO ANYONE WHO WILL BE AFFECTED AND ASK THEM TO SIGN.

The feedback from local business owners has been heavy and honest because they know exactly how much is at stake here. I have been spending my time documenting the potential losses to present to the board. We are not backing down until they acknowledge the reality of this economic impact.

Seeing the count climb past this milestone is exhausting but it proves people are finally listening to our concerns. It is difficult to keep pushing when the town refuses to acknowledge the economic damage being done but your support keeps the momentum moving forward.

I don’t think this new law is about lack of long term rentals, I think it’s more about certain people not wanting their town to change and grow. More tourism will bring more money to the town which in turn will bring more business, more jobs and more housing (apt buildings) to house the employees. This makes no sense and is only hurting the communities growth. I think new blood that has a forward thinking mindset should be brought into the board.

My wife and I are small business owners that rely on our short term rental to support our income. We believe our rental helps bring money into the community and we're happy with the taxes we pay to our community. Please do not impose the 50% regulation on our livelihood.

Short term rentals are vital to our local economy! Welcoming tourists to our area is the backbone of our meager economy. Please leave STRs alone and do not regulate them. If you want to solve the affordable housing crisis, this is not the way to do it. Since 50% of properties in the town are second homes, those homes will sit vacant if not rented short term and our local economy will be missing the huge revenue visitors provide.

Please create a sensible plan for the future of short term rentals in Olive. The benefits for the community are immense and poorly planned regulation could hurt what would continue for years being a boon for the towns revenue as well as employment opportunities.

Limiting STR is not the town's answer to affordable housing in the area. It will only make things worse as commerce will decline with STR restrictions.

STR's allow visitors to discover the wonders of the Catskills and the Hudson Valley. These visitors then patronize the local businesses. Keep STR's in place, they help to fuel the local economy!

Why not build affordable housing instead of decimating a local economy.

I agree that this will effect local economy in negative ways.
