I am opposed to the proposed Home Rental Tax in Falmouth, Cape Cod.
The proposed tax – as high as 9.7% - on vacation rentals in the Town of Falmouth is bad for homeowners, business owners and vacationers.
With the economy in its current state, now is not the time for new taxes. We are residents, second homeowners, tourists and visitors — the very people who have the ability to choose to buy, rent and vacation in other Cape towns (like Harwich) that have already defeated this proposed tax.
Falmouth needs to consider the devastating impact to businesses and home values if our dollars are lost to other towns.
Falmouth Selectmen consider this tax "politically safe," since they will be taxing non-Falmouth residents (i.e. non-voters). But as someone who owns a home or vacations in Falmouth, I want my voice to be heard. I oppose this new tax. By signing this petition, I am asking Falmouth Selectmen NOT to recommend this irresponsible new tax to Town Meeting.
I understand that this petition, and all signatories, will be presented to the Falmouth Selectmen before they vote on this article.
Thank you.
Our progress toward the five hundred signature mark continues to gain steady momentum. I ask that you forward this petition to a neighbor or associate today so we can reach this important threshold before our presentation to the Selectmen.

Ridiculous tax. It will just hurt the local shops and restaurants when tourists stop coming because of the extra costs.

We have been coming to Falmouth for 20 years but this would force us to look elsewhere. Keep it affordable for families.
