Back in 1996 – 1998, the 11th & 12th addition of Dufferin Park were approved by the Savage City Council and Planning Commission. A total of 149 homes in both additions. Overlook Drive from Dufferin Drive into the neighborhood is basically the 11th addition of Dufferin Park. As you enter further into the area beyond Overlook Drive, which would include Hillside Trail and Valley View Drive, this would be the 12th addition of Dufferin Park. Those approvals included a bridge to the south on Valley View Dr. The development to the south of Credit River (South of Dufferin Park) would trigger the construction of the bridge to the south and connect with Hanrehan Blvd. Due to the economy and the lack of development to the south, the construction of the bridge has been delayed for 15 years.
April 4th there was a Planning Commission meeting with one of the topics being a public hearing for a development to the south of Credit River. During the meeting there was a few neighbors (both neighbors adjacent to the proposed bridge) to voice their opinions on the bridge. I encourage you to read the minutes from the Planning Commission or watch the video from last Thursday which are available on the City of Savage website. A few of the comments made by city staff (Public Works Director & Planning Commissioner members) were in favor of the bridge, but critiqued that details of the specific plan of the proposed development. Comments included added wear and tear on the streets, the existing condition of the ”11th & 12th addition of Dufferin Park” was the largest dead-end neighborhood in the city, and the topic of safety in respect to emergency vehicle access and only having one entrance to the neighborhood. (There was discussion of having a another fire station at some point built to the South, which would most likely be a more direct access to the neighborhood pending the development of South Savage.)

I met with city staff this morning to discuss the development timeline south of the Credit River. They are currently reviewing the original bridge requirements from the initial housing approvals. I will post a summary of their feedback once they provide a formal response regarding the construction schedule.

its been way to long. they promised this bridge years ago when i bought my house and its time they finally just build it like they said they would.
traffic on Dufferin is a total nightmare during school drop off times. we really need a second way out of this neighborhood now.

The bridge will reduce the traffic load for Bridgewater Dr residents in Dufferin Park dramatically, and it also will provide a very convenient outlet to the residents of Overlook Dr and Valley View road who need to drive 5-6 minutes just to get out of the neighborhood.
