Please sign our petition concerning pedestrian safety in Broadstairs high street. At the corner of Queens roads (where the high street bends) buses are frequently mounting the pavement forcing pedestrians onto the road and up against shops, not to mention causing damage to premises in the high street. We feel that some sort of rail or bollard needs to be put in place to protect both pedestrians and businesses.

Updates

April 22, 2016

I have been in contact with the local council regarding the persistent safety issues at the corner of Queens Road. They are currently reviewing the site reports to determine the most effective installation for pedestrian protection.

The response to this proposal confirms that the safety of our town center is a priority for many residents. This collective momentum highlights the urgent need for structural improvements to protect pedestrians at the corner of Queens Road.

Something needs to be done, I had a near miss with a bus when I was in town on Monday.

Safety must come first. What if it's a child, an elderly or disabled person that can't move out of the way quickly. Keep broadstairs safe.

It is not only pedestrians who are at risk. The corner of Queens Road and The High Street has been a nightmare ever since it was altered. You can witness near misses by drivers on a daily basis. Drivers unfamiliar with Broadstairs are at a particular disadvantage, as it is distinctly unclear what to do at this corner, leading to frustration and bad driving decisions. I had no joy from the council when I contacted them some months after the changes were originally made. They refused to send someone to monitor the problems that have been a constant concern to both drivers and pedestrians from day one!

Ridiculous design, no logical person would have decided this was a good idea to have a crossing with two bus stops opposite each other on a blind bend in a busy high street!!!!! The world has gone mad!! Most drivers take no notice of the other junction either straight down the high street and carry on with no indication of their intentions. So so dangerous, I've seen so many near misses!!!!

I live right by here and cross this road daily. I can't even begin to count how many close calls my friends, family and myself have had. It's especially scary when my son has been with me, walking or in his pushchair, and we have had near misses with traffic mounting the pavement.
